Another "Competitor" for the RX-8
Did anyone else see the review of the Chrysler Crossfire in Autocar? This has been talked about as an RX-8 competitor, although not on this board (we've all got far too much taste ). To sumarise their review:
1) They didn't know quite what to make of the styling - lets say they weren't convinced (personally I think it's one of the stupidest looking cars I've ever seen but thats just my view).
2) Price £27200 (ouch!)
3) 215 bhp and 1525 kg (although it's got lots of torque). Not particularly fast.
4) Apparently it has loads of roadholding and can pull huge g's due to huge rear tyres (255/35) - but of course thats not the same thing as handling. No steering feel except at very high speeds.
5) Very hard ride due to the above.
6) Worse fuel economy than the RX-8 (yes, it is possible!). 22.7 mpg combined (vs 24.8 for the RX-8). Urban was down in the 15's.
7) Its a two seater.
Someone, somewhere must really love the styling because they have already sold the 500 cars arriving this year. Can't think of any other reason why anyone would buy it.
Strangely, in spite of all their criticisms, Autocar were very positive in their conclusions. It seemed they had decided they were going to like this car before they reviewed it - the opposite of their attitude to the RX-8.

Yes. They take an SLK, and then get rid of all the things people actually like about it (the badge, the classy styling, the fancy roof). What were they thinking of ???

Yep saw the crossfire at MotorExpo.
Saw the front first and thought "wow" this looks different, and good. Got round to the side and back and thought "Yuk!".
(Or maybe it was the other way around - long time ago now!)
