I learnt how to to do it in real life after reading this thread, catch my drift?

champi0n 10-07-2010 02:25 PM

I'm not sure of the names/techniques, but I'll either stomp on the gas for lower speed high angle corners; or drive fast into the corner, brake to take weight off the back while turning in pretty hard, as soon as the back starts to come out, stomp on the gas and turn the other way.

I find it pretty smooth up until I straighten out of the drift, the back end just whips back into a straight line pretty harsh. I'm not sure how to correct for a smoother exit, I'm guessing i may be at too steep of an angle coming out of the drift - but I really have no idea what needs to be done to correct the whiplash on exit.

so you use weight transfer then

Junirol 10-23-2010 01:47 AM

brake drifting I think thats what it called. press the brakes for a sec to transfer weight forward while making a sharp turn, and then counter steering facing the direction u want to go while laying down the gas :)

JustinsFDpoweredFC 10-24-2010 09:54 PM

Weight transfer is always fun. Done that a few time unintentialy.

willnordacgreen1211 11-13-2010 05:22 AM

clutch kick...

jasonrxeight 12-28-2010 02:19 AM

Im more of a weight shift guy.
brake hard into the corner, heel and toe the gears, then reduce the brake a bit turn in sharp, the back end just comes round. abit like trail braking, but with the sliding.
but its a combination of many ways depending on the track.

sidewayssteve 02-01-2011 04:10 PM

weight transfer and clutch kick.

Hey brother, Its not that your comming out of drift at too steep an angle. Your most likely not powering through the whole way. Once u hit the corner and your wanna straighten out, Slowly bring the wheel back as the car straightens out and keep roasting your tires. If you power through correctly on the exit your car should still have the rear tires loose and spinning once shes straightened out throttle control and get traction and move to the next turn. Dont release the gas or lower throttle until your car is straight where u want her. Your tires are hooking back up to the road while ur comming straight so your getting that "aggressive" traction gain.

For the hand brake drift, do you need to step on the clutch? I saw some people do, and some don't. I currently do because that's what I saw in the drift bible.

Luillo12 06-24-2011 06:35 PM

i use the clutch, im not ready for the ebrake becuase u have to go fast..

i got one question. drif damage the differencial?

Without the clutch, you won't do anything.

brake + clutch + ebrake = boogie

One could apply that same logic to people who feel compelled to read drifting forums while feeling that way about drifting.

I am not a big fan, but acknowledge there are skills involved.

TougeAttackSid 09-21-2011 01:46 PM

i never clutch kick. if you find yourself clutch kicking, youre not going fast enough

Brettly2005 09-22-2011 06:24 PM

im no professional but i like the Scandinavian flick. its just too much fun

timmytriangles 05-27-2012 12:35 AM

clutch kick. im not too good lol yea i usually drift at pretty slow speeds. im a second gear drifter still

poppinparker 03-12-2013 09:37 AM

I personaly use weight transfer to engine braking and clutch kick. I only realy hand brake when I whant to kick out further. It all depends on the situation I'm drifting in though

mistahjg 03-12-2013 04:12 PM

clutch kick for me but scandinavian flick works well for the 8

I think its called 'dynamic" drifting... where you use weight transfer to start the drift is my favourite in my rx3, I guess the same will apply when I get to the track in the 8 !
