Finally the payoff. I knew there was some reason I read past the 1st page!

gas, ebrake, brake tap, gas

BlueRenesis82 03-06-2010 10:13 PM

Make fist, punch self in face until desire to drift or reproduce goes away.

If the corner is a slower corner, I'll do a 3rd to 2nd shift and pop the clutch and manipulate the power.

A faster corner is just a clutch kick in 3rd and hold on.

With more power its easier to just Power Over and manipulate that way.

Cars with more power also benefit more from a hydraulic e-brake setup vs a standard e-brake setup.

^^^wow lol

i personally use the clucth kick everytime i can to initiate the drift but some time is not enough n have to either kick it again or e-brake

iLikeEatPoo 04-14-2010 02:16 AM

I play fav to the clutch and ebrake but all styles are needed to take all types of corners and different transitions.

mclean02 05-07-2010 02:55 PM

its all about the clutch kick ninja !!!!

AZR 05-09-2010 11:42 AM

bluerenesis just comes in swinging. I like your style. First state out the obvious about 90% of the posts in here, but then comin back with that sick ass pic. The best is the guy holding on!

this is a good one....

rx8_drifter 05-10-2010 12:58 AM

i like them all but it depends on the corner and entry speed.

Easy_E1 05-10-2010 01:26 AM

I have oil sprayers in front of the back tires. Slip sliding away,,,,

I can see there's a ton of love for drifting here, just like RX7club back in the day lol.

For a car like the RX8, you're going to be using a feint/manji on fast corners and/or an ebrake initiation on slower ones. I've never seen anyone use just a clutch kick on a car with this much mechanical grip and so little usable torque. Braking is almost always used with a feint, and shift-lock entry on a rotary is retarded (but I guess you could use it with a feint as well).

The truth of the matter is you're almost always using multiple techniques together. Watch the pro's, or head out to a local drifting event and ask the guys who have been at it a few years and can link the entire course.

Coming from the road racing community but working mostly in the drifting world, I always challenge the haters to actually come out to a drifting even and ride along with someone who knows what they're doing ~ if you're not having fun, check your pulse.

Drifting is less about competition than having a blast going way too fast around a track.

AZR 05-12-2010 06:23 PM

^^well technically your going much slower than in "road racing" for example. But none the less....I agree with your point.

Jasonvaldez 05-13-2010 02:36 AM

feint with Clutch kick for sure i have actually been drifting my 8 in Comps and i found for small turns clutch kick is fine but when it comes to the bigger turns i initiate with the clutch then use the hand brake to continue the drift.

My favorite: Super Ultra Mega Backwards Drift Technique! What is this you ask? Just watch the vid!

Gr8Bullet 05-13-2010 03:30 AM

I like to go really fast then slam it in park....

JB_Rotary 05-16-2010 07:39 PM

Nice to know everyone still hates drifting here

Clutch Kick works great in our cars. E-Brake only works at higher speeds when you should be braking or clutch kicking anyway.

When you guys say "feint" do you mean the old-school Norwegian Flick (aka Scandanavian Flick - seems I'm a tad out of date with the proper terminology...)?

Eg// Enter corner, brake, steer to the outside to set up the oversteer in the wrong direction and break loose the rear wheels, big power, steer into the corner, catch the pendulum and let swing it crazy out through the corner gracefully bleeding speed ('cause brakes are for sissies), ease off the power to keep the car from whipping around into the ditch, then smoothly on out of the corner ready for the next?

If so, then yeah, "drifting", as opposed to "purposeful oversteer" seems like a retarded way to burn rubber.

How do you guys afford the tires???

... is what the cool kids have been doing since the 50's instead of drifting like the Fast and Bi-Curious. You wanna be cool? Get the "in the garage, out of the garage" down pat.

Chicks dig that.

scandinavian flick is what i prefer.
