My name is Toby. I'm 21 years old always wanted a fc or fd but everybody wanted an arm and a leg for one, so my first two cars were 1990 nissan 240sx's. Never really had love for them so i sold both in 2012 and bought a 2004 mazda rx8 grand touring with 72k miles.

Here's a pic of when i first got her april 2012
Attachment 222825

late Winter 2012-2013 I installed Bc racing br coilovers with some help from some friends it was a bit pain in the ass to install but she has her winter low all set now.

Looking good man... What are the spec's on the wheels and what size spacers do you have on?

DMaverickRX8 01-23-2014 01:32 PM

Really digging this build. Love your car bro. Same color as mine :) can't wait to watch it unfold!

Mb battles 18x9.5 +15 offset
I have 5mm slip on spacers making them wheels +10 offset
I test fitted 15mm bolt on spacers that i have layin around those would make it hellaflush but my bc racing coilovers arent the best so i dont wanna screw up my fenders. One day ill get higher spring rates so ill have a stiffer ride.
For now it looks pretty good.

Thanks it wont be the fastest build but its going to be awesome once done.
Oh and lil things i forgot to mention it has a exedy stage 1 clutch and raceroots dual exhaust system.

YboTs13 01-23-2014 03:35 PM

Here's a video showcasing the Northeast drift scene. This is where I'll be drifting in a few months. I can't wait!!

AlShinka 01-24-2014 08:41 PM

Subbed. Looking forward to this build, will be doing the same thing once summer rolls around. That's the thing about this car, all you read about is how bad the fuel economy is or how slow it is compared to other cars. You never read about how much personality it has, how much love it gives back to the owner.

Peace

Thanks the tire size are 215/40/18 all around and the Bc's are basic 8kg upfront and 6kg in the rear. I was being cheap at the time got them brand new $900 shipped. Once they blow ill get them rebuild with swift springs and higher spring rates.

Nice man. thanks for the reply. Im running the 18x9.5s +15 all the way around but wrapped in a 225/40. Was a good image to see what the drop will look like.

YboTs13 03-01-2014 06:38 PM

Update I learned Pbm tie rod spacers wont work because there's not enough threads on the inner tie rods.

KillTym420 03-08-2014 03:54 PM

Hey. I was about to get the 7mm PBM tie rod spacers for more steering angle. Are the Super Now tie rod ends keeping the spacers from fitting?

No my Super Now tie rod ends have nothing to do with it. Its the oem inner tie rod between the steering rack doesnt have enough threads to run safetly. So as of now there are still no steering angle mods for rx8s -_-

EricB 03-31-2014 03:21 PM

^ will knuckles fix the issue?

contact Vosko on clubloose to see if he can do something, he makes them for FD's.

Are you sure? It looks like they worked for these guys. I'm just curious as to why it might work for some and not others and I'm trying to figure out if I can make them work. I really need that extra angle.

Use at your on risk i wouldnt run them and my friend that installed his pbm steering angle mod kit for his 350z suggested i didnt you'll have like 2-3 threads left if spacers are installed.

Okay. I appreciate that info. Did the Super Now tie rod ends have any effect on steering angle?

So I'm back with some updates & motivation. I still need an alignment to tone down my rear negative camber & correct toe in. Battery was relocated to rear trunk, plans to tuck some harnesses soon. lately I've been hoarder tires & parts.

Attachment 220851

So about a month ago i picked up a known running motor from a local dude that totaled his rx8 which I plan to build with the help of some friends or just send it to a shop to have cleaned up, ported & upgraded apex seals in the near future. Right now im waiting on a shine auto type f front bumper, buddy club driver seat & rail, and a Super now pulley to come in the mail.

Hey I have a few question , hope you dont mind. lol
1 Where did you pickup thoes side mirrors? Ive been trying to get some lol
2 What coilover are you running? I ask that cause I gotten some TEIN Basic coilovers and Ive thrown my car around on some roads and parking lots but its seems your car tends to really dip in those corners.
3 Other then your CAI, any other engine mods ?

I ask all this cause im trying to set up my rx8 for drifting too. Im coming from drifting a old 86 mustang , and a 86 sr5

There called Ganador super mirrors and you can get them from Rhdjapan. Im running Bc racing br coilovers which i dislike and plan on changing soon but i run them pretty stiff dampening. Its just a healthy stock renesis engine deleted secondary air pump and catalytic converter. I just drive hard seat time is everything

GK1707 10-30-2014 06:48 PM

Any updates on the motor build? You're going FI or staying NA. I'm looking into rebuilding mine soon as well, mainly around reliability and the occasional lead foot syndrome I have.

But not assembling the motor myself tho lol. I'm gonna have it done by a shop, but looking into light porting and an upgrading seals as well. What apex seals are you gonna run, and whos doing the porting?

Rx8 is on the back burner right now due to a car accident, its not dead so i wait till its ready to return better than ever. As of motor plans i was planning on getting a greddy turbo kit and using racing beat porting templates, rotary aviation seals and prolly go to smg racing in RI or Irp in NJ to have it assembled.

GK1707 11-01-2014 02:42 PM

Heard good things about IRP. I'll be heading that way when I need a rebuild. And same seal choice I've been looking into Rotary Aviation classics for NA. Not planing on boosting the renny.

Nice and im thinking 6psi of boost shouldnt hurt the renny.

derek king 11-04-2014 01:19 PM

looks like your spring rates are about 10k too soft front and rear.
