More polyurethane accessories (strakes, accents, and more)
Fellow enthusiasts-
I have been working for some time now on producing some alternative accessories for the RX-8. Right now I've got a few items prototyped, namely the ever popular side strakes, front and rear rotary accents and the european lip spoiler ... all of which are made of polyurethane.
I've signed up to be a vendor and will be posting more information once Ryan and company get my forum set up.
I decided to approach this little project of mine as a challenge to see if I could produce some quality accessories for the RX-8. Having admired the RX-8 since the first prototypes were shown, I knew I had to own one some day. Like all of you I am very enthusiastic about my car, and meticulous regarding it's care. Also, like many of you, I've thought the prices on many accessories were, shall we say, a bit on the excessive side. So having heard this since nearly day one of joining this forum, I decided to see if I could do something for our community and at the same time challenge myself with a whole new world of making aftermarket parts.
I have conducted months of research and experimented with so many products that I simply can't remember them all. I made a decision to invest in some fairly sophisticated materials and technology to enable me to make the best parts possible. The most important requirement I set down for myself was the absolute need to have FUN designing, prototyping and producing quality parts. So far it has been a real rush and I am very excited to start showing off some of my work.
Here are a few pictures of strakes and front accents. I'd really appreciate any comments you care to make. Generally speaking, the item on the left is pretty dang close to chrome, and the item on the right is slightly less shiny, more like a bright aluminum.
So, what do you think? Like? Don't like? Any suggestions? Comments?

To vouch for derwankel, esp with D Menc 7 starting work on the strakes, derwankel already had a post deleted several months ago for the lip spoiler. So, he really HAS been working months on these products. I just wish I had gotten to see them in person before I moved to LA. The pictures look great.

Mate, they look great! We've been starved for an alternative to the overpriced Mazda gear for so long, and now we have two new players! Congratulations!

So, thanks to both D and Derwankel for time well spent.

As Derwankle said, I got tired of the overinflated prices of these Mazda items too which is why I went forward and started with the strakes I am making for the benefit of the members of this forum.
There are many other products that can be made for the RX-8 and I am researching them each and every day as I find the time to do so.

Any idea when you will start to market them?
Also, how durable is the finish on these pieces?

They'll be available very soon ... just waiting on the forum to get me set up as a vendor.
As for durability of finish, they are all receiving 2 heavy coats of clear high-gloss polyurethane. This is not the stuff from a spray can. This is PPG DCU2002 automotive clearcoat. A state-of-the-art premium quality clearcoat specifically designed to reproduce high tech OEM finishes. In other words ... very durable.
