So let me get this straight...you have an AEM cold air intake, but want to go back to stock? Might be interested if this is the case.

yes lol
i dont like the intake sound and it looks unfinished under the hood
for the 5 hp or less that it actually adds to a non modded engine id rather
have the tidy stock look... (easier to hide turbo plumbing etc)
i may make my own out of stainless but for now i want it to look stock

i will post pics soon

Wankler, can you confirm that the AEM instake has "metal-ringed" screens?
The Mazdaspeed CAI (which is essentially the same thing) uses a rubber-ringed screen that has a tendency to slip out of its position.

Sure.... Where are the screens located ? Are they like a debris screen ? Or do you mean the screen actually incorporated in the filter ?

The screens will be located before the MAF sensor. They are actually metal screens. The screens are used to straighten out the air flow so the MAF sensor gets an accurate reading.

BTW: Your Arthur C. Clarke quote is also known as Clarke's Third Law.

this one has the rubber surround screens (2) on either side of the center sections... I pulled it all apart and checked that it went back together with
the screens aligned correctly...

the filter appears to have an additional cover over the element (?)

if anyone is interested it will have to be swapped in on a sat or sunday..
as im a full time working slob that has used up all my extra days till between
christmas and new years...

feel free to post any more questions or requests for more pics...

update...
my 2 weeks of hell

prologue
12 years ago I hurt a disk in my lower back lifting a pinball machine and it took
2 weeks to get me on my feet again.

2 weeks ago today i woke up and was in my own private hell again... the dog
must have been sleeping on me at some point and i had tried to roll over in my
sleep and boom messed up my back again. I woke up and couldn't move.
after 3 hrs of carefully postioning my self i was able to relieve some pain and
crawl around. I took till wed to get me on my feet again and off to the chiropractor
who did her magic...
also... while i was barely walking... this wed we rushed my youngest daughter to
emerg to have her "about to explode" appendix removed.
Today I had a full blown adjustment at the Docs and feel about 90%

soooooooooooo... this little project will have to wait till the spring
Im deeply sorry to anyone that had their heart set on this but I still have the
turbo 4.3 fiero project to finish (a promise to my wife). This spring i will contact
all who were interested in order and go from there.

Should be really easy to remove.

I'm a bit confused on what is hard abour removing the CAI there isn't much to it.
The hardest part is removing the front bumper.

I have instructions for that part, if u like?

Other than that its basic hose clamps and vacuum lines.

Being somewhat of a fabricator I like to fully research as much as possible especially when working on my daily driver...
I found an excellent thread in the DIY section with a video and a step by step list of instructions and after having read them I can see it will be a breeze to remove it

Thanks for your offer
