Winter Storage
Are you storing your 8 during the winter?
If so, when are you going to put it in the garage?
Mine is going away November 1st.....

No way! My winter wheels and tires will be arriving today or tomorrow :D I'm looking forward to finding a big empty parking lot after the first big snowfall and giving the DSC and TC (on and off) a thorough evaluation! :p

Of those putting it away for the winter, are you guys doing anything to it first (put it on stands, fill gas/run it dry, remove battery...)? Is there anything that should be done before storing? Shouldn't be done?
In regards to stroing your car
I do most of what this guy does right pretty much down to a tee. I just don't feel like typing all of it.

I'm storing it this winter.
No set date though. I'll just keep an eye on the weather, and the day before winter is really supposed to hit, I'll just park it in the garage... and not bring it out again for a few months.
Full stabilizer on a full tank of gas and fresh oil, and it should be fine.

My main concern will be keeping damned rodents out of the thing... anybody got any tips?

I'm somewhere in between - the Pathfinder will be primary vehicle for the winter, but my wife and I both work, so I know the 8 will be out a day or 2 each week.
My only real concern is salt on the interior. The floor will be a salt-caked mess by March. Any tips on preventative measures (treatments?) I can take to keep this from happening?

Salt on the interior is your concern? Winter Floor mats are the way to fix that up..
Personally, I've got a garage to store my RX-8 in this winter, so it gets the lucky spot.. I'm more converned about keeping the exterior salt free.. I don't like even driving in the rain, even though it's lots of fun.
I'm sure that it's going to be just fine driving, with the viscous differential, and the 50/50 weight, and the DCS/TCS & ABS.. Pretty much should be good..
I'll probably pull mine out in the winter if the weather is fine for a few days, and the salt is good and washed away.. I'm probably going to get the extended warranty as well.. This car is a keeper.

From the warranty manual I saw from the dealer the other day, extending the factory warranty from 50/48 month to 100/84 month costs about $1400(approx?), and can be purchased any time before your existing warranty expires.
I havn't purchased an Ext. warranty yet, and count on being able to get one at a slightly better than that price, if I decide to keep the rx-8 that long, which is very likely.

edit: At least those are the options and prices from the US warranty booklet

Thank Wing and OverLoad!
It's good to know that the extended warranty option is availalble and I will definetly consider it since I will most likely be keeping the car for a long time...depending on the result of how reliable the car will be for the next 8 months.
Great

Hey Jasper_the_2nd, I had an MX-3. IT was a '96 GS. I thought it was pretty good. I could do a 0-60 in 7.5s in it.
Not quite up to scratch for many of todays beasts on the road, but still, its nothing to laugh at.

Mine's a 95 GS.
It's not that it's really that bad a car, it's just that compared to the 8, it's kind of sad.
I keep wanting to shift into 6th. Good thing they have that little thing to keep you from shifting from 5th into reverse....
And the throw to 5th feels like I have to reach clear across the cabin.
And I keep forgetting to switch the mirror for night driving.
And what are the headlights on an MX-3, 40 W? I want my Xeon back.
And I keep pressing the left side of the steering wheel trying to adjust the volume.
And the steering wheel is frekking huge, and thin. Feels like I'm driving a tractor trailer.
And I never noticed how driving a front wheel drive feels like you are just dragging the back end of the car around before.
And that's just from a five minute drive last night and my drive in to work this morning...
