Who's going to the Toronto autoshow

Lets see a show of hands.

Who's planning on attending the Toronto International Auto Show http://www.autoshow.ca/ February 14-23.

I am. Just have to finalize the flights and dates.

I have full intentions on taking 100's of pictures of the RX-8. Got any wishes?

Even though I have been to the Detroit auto show I am still planning to attend the Toronto show. It's a ritual that I do every year.

I'll be there for sure... I'd just like them to update their website to see if there is any day that the RX-8 wouldn't be shown. Nobody has any exact info eh?

It appears that the RX-8 production prototype will make its Canadian debut at the 2003 Canadian International Autoshow.

"Among the new production vehicles that will be exhibited, look for the twin-rotor Mazda RX-8, a stunning 4-door sports coupe, and the second generation Dodge Viper SRT-10..."
Click here for additional show information.

There is no mention of a limited appearance so let's all hope it will be there for the entire show this year. At last years show the yellow prototype was spinning on the turntable only for the first three days of the show... it was love at first site.

And once again Nissan has come through with free parking vouchers with your paid admission, adults $18.00.

I called Mazda Customer Service number today to find out whether the 8 will be at the show the whole time and if it is going to be possible to sit in it, touch it, taste it and take pics.

The car will definately be there for the whole show, and its suppose to be a production model. They are going to get back to me to advise whether we can sit in it.. Once I know I will post the info here..

cya at the show

:D

On that note:

Does anyone know if the deadlines for the deposit and pre-ordering for the USA is same for Canada?

The USA has 3 sets of dates ranging from Jan - Feb (ithink)

I've checked on www.mazda.ca but there are not much info for the deadlines, pre-ordering details..

Thanks
Heavenscent

Don't expect to hear anything from Mazda Canada until the Toronto Car Show in February, that's when they will announce pricing, options, availability, etc...

My local dealer said he'd be happy to hold a $1000.00 so that I can get the second 8 delivered. Some other 8 lover left a grand earlier, so he/she gets the 1st one.

Apparently, there are no custom pre-orders being accepted. I think it has something to do with the fact that the choices are limited to two options, with 6 exterior colours.

See my post http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2221

If you do place an order early, I am sure they will guarantee you're preferred colour and package (GT or GS) choice.

I'm definately there.... but you guys better get your pics before I get there, the cars might have my drool all over them...

BTW, use your connections... you guys are all car buffs, don't pay the full $18 price for the auto show...

If you have friends working at car companies they can get them for $10 (at least that is what a friend working at DCX told me).

I ordered mine for $12 through a friends Rec club at work.

Failing getting a discount ticket, I'm sure there will be coupons in the Star/Sun for at least a couple bucks off of the full $18 price.

Unfortunately this year I have to pay, every other year GM sends me a pair of free tickets due to my GM visa card, but GM better start making some appealing cars if they want me to spend my $3,000 in GM visa money... Now I smartened up, I'm collecting PC points... everyone's gotta eat...

BTW 2, I'm now Kyoto friendly. Lease was up on the Expedition yesterday... Handed back the keys.

The way things were supposed to work was that my Expedition lease was supposed to expire just as the RX-8 was hitting the market. Unfortunately that did not happen, and I had to get the C class...

Question: Does anyone know if dealers are in the habit of buying leases out? eg. Say the RX-8 is a must have car and I can't wait 3yrs for an RX-8. Could I go to the Mazda dealer and say "Take the Benz off my hands and I'll take a RX-8"?

I know I could always go to lease busters and unload the Benz, but I need a low hassle transaction, don't have the time for that... I need one stop shopping.

Customer relations at HQ Mazda Canada has provided me with the following information regarding the Auto Show in Toronto.

The following vehicles will be on display for the entire show.

An RX-8, but it will be on a platform, so we will not be able to sit in it or touch it.

The X-Men RX-8

A Cosmos

The RX-Evolv (concept car)

Question RX-8 at the Toronto autoshow

At other autoshows Mazda allowed committed buyers with proof of deposit to sit in the car.

Will Mazda do the same in Toronto ?

Unhappy Sitting in the car at the Toronto car show

I called Mazda Canada and friday afternoon and they confirmed that they will not allow anybody to sit in the car, even if we paid a deposit to purchase the car.

I beleive that this is very unfair to Canadians since Mazda USA let visitors sits in the car in LA and Detroit.

Should we start a telephone and e-mail campaign to complain ?

My guess is! No matter how much pressure is placed on Mazda, the car will not be made available for anyone, including those that pre-ordered.

I have a feeling that there is only one RX-8 being sent to Canada, and that is why it will not be made available to the public.

That is unfortunate. I am 6'7" with a vested interest in this beautiful automobile, and I would like to know if I fit before I preorder. Bastards.

ANYone was allowed to sit in the two 8's on display at the Detroit show.. There was a third car in red that was on the turntable display. I'm glad now that I chose to go to Detroit..
Btw, if you are 6'7" I doubt this will be a comfortable car for you.. sorry.. I'm 6' tall and imo anymore than 6' 2" will start getting tight and snug, especially with the optional sunroof.

I knew being 5'10" would one day pay off. BTW... what the heck am I doing in the Canada forum anyway?

Sorry I am a spammer at heart, and I spam my own forums, so it is a habit... I will try and control myself here. Everything I have read has been informative and SPAM free! So... without further ado, I will shut it.
