Well, after a year of lurking...

Last Saturday at 12:24pm, I became the proud owner of a 2005 Silver RX8 GT. It's a different one that the one I was looking originally but mostly the same. It was listed at 18,599 and after haggling, paying with a big lump of cash and declining 6 free oil changes, I signed the bottom line for $20,500.

The actual price for the car is some horribly uneven number because I had the salesman know that the final total had to be under $20,000 so we played with the numbers until I was happy and he was willing and able to make the sale. I think I got an acceptable deal on the car. It's a silver 2005 GT with the 6 speed, full black interior, second set of wheels(winter), 62,000 kms(39,000 miles) and new brake pads. I'm picking it up tomorrow evening and pics with ensue.

What do you guys think, 20K to drive an 05GT off the lot?

Congratulations. That sounds like a pretty good deal.

You should sign up for the final spot at our upcoming Dyno + tune day and meet some other 8 owners.

I sort of copied the text from my post in the GD/Purchasing sub-forum. I was looking at another silver 05 that was same price(about) and most of the same options but I found out it was in a front end crash. This one was $500 more asking price but also comes with a second set of wheels.

The cars I was looking at were basically anything that had four seats and were reasonably sporty for Auto-crossing with my brother and his friends. I do understand that RX8s do have the greatest gas mileage but 2-3 mpg is the same as making your lunch at home and not buying it. Plus, I have it on good authority that girls (not to seems sexiest) like the looks of the 8.

I friend of mine bought an 2002 WRX a few months ago for just about the same money I just spent and kept laughing at me since his car is faster and whatever he was going on about. Not that I was jealous but I think my car looks better, drives easier and is far more comfortable because as hard as you try to convince yourself otherwise, you aren't going to sliding your car that you bought and insure with your own money on some gravel country road.

What a lot of NON-RX8 people don't understand is that there's more to driving than just "max speed"... the only reason they even think to compare and immediately put out a comment like that is because they feel "threatened" by our cars. They're all just jealous and a bunch of haters, hence they have to defend whatever car they have.

If you talk to RX8 owners, you will rarely hear them in conversation and initiate some random fact like "hey, my car handles better than yours..."

It's usually the other person that initiates the comparison by making some comment feeling they have to say something to "one-up" on your RX-8.

The RX-8 is a one of a kind sports car! bar none.

RX-8 owners do not need to compare to anyone on any level. We are on our own field in uniqueness.

with respect to your comment on your authority on the female perspective, it would be safe to assume your a dude.

Footman, it's still a sausage feet. Sorty bud, or I could be wrong which just provides evidence that the female 8er enthusiasts reside in Hamilton.

That very true. I actually had trouble describing an RX-8 to some of my family. Went something like "...well, it's like a two seat sports car but with four doors and seats that can hold four adults. It's a great handling sports car but it's just as good carrying four people and a trunk full of groceries from stores. It's basically the greatest all-rounded with the only drawback is 15% higher fuel costs...) The closest comparison I could think of was a 2.0TT or a Civic Si. A 350Z is the Japanese idea of a 1970s muscle car, the G35 which shares the same engine as the 350Z is a luxury sedan, the WRX/STi and Evo's are uncomfortable street legal rally cars. Golf GTIs and MS3's are just as good performance wise but don't look or feel as special. Maybe an 325Ci is pretty close to the overall package of the RX8 but just looks like a normal BMW and RX8s stand out in a crowd of $75-100K cars.

I've only driven an RX8 seven times but I already love it, quirks and all.

***Edit***

Sorry, that avatar is my old girlfriend. I don't call her an Ex because we're still friends and get along great. Change it in a sec...

Welcome to the club!

You got a good deal. I paid $18 500 total on the road for a 2004 Blue 6 Speed GT. I too got new brakes (and cat and engine...) but no second set of wheels. I hope to meet you at one of the up coming meets, that way I won't be the only RX-8 Noob.

No, it's from Mazda Canada. I basically just copied the post from the one I made in the GD thread that was about some of the other RX8s I was looking at.
