Toronto area track days?

Anyone care to post the 2009 lapping/track days they know about at Mossport and/or SMP? Has anyone driven Calabogie yet??

I'll start the process:

"Dexter Days" this year at Mossport:

Fridays: May 1st, May 29th, July 3rd, August 21st, September 25th,
Saturday: October 10th

Imagemotorsports at SMP:

Every Monday of a long weekend (contact "01Racing" for details)

MCO (Motorsports Club of Ottawa) at Calabogie $300 non-members or $250 for members. The 2 lapping days are Friday, May 1st and Thursday, July 23rd. I'll be there on May 1st!

3 ***** Racing does an annual lapping day at Calabogie. No date set yet, but pricing last year was excellent at $225. Good fun group with a good caravan of guys that come from the US.

I thought about making the same kinda thread, wasn't sure how early to do it tho.

Calabogie looks like a sweet track btw. Would be cool if we can get more guys out lapping this year or even see about renting a track for 1/2 day or a full day of just 8's if at all possible.

Also should be added is autocross.

this thread is a good idea. im hoping to do as many lapping days and autocrosses as i can afford this year. i have virtually no racing experience, so i would like to get into it more ASAP. and marc, thats a good idea, but that is pretty expensive to rent i think. You'd really have to have alot of people that are guaranteed gonna show or someone is gonna get screwed with the bill.

It would be sweet to do so and ya need some ppl for sure. From what i could remember last year 1/2 day was around $1500 full day $3000 give or take. So pending 25-30 ppl and that would give us TONS of lapping

Calabougie is a long tow home if something goes wrong. Shannonville is still a drive, about 2 hours from Toronto. There will be lapping days there every Monday of a holiday weekend starting with Victoria Day Monday. The cost will be $140.00 if I can get a GUARANTEE of at least 6 guys showing up (never happened yet). The day is open track from 9am until 5pm, and they split both long and pro track configurations. If you havent been to the track before, DO NOT START AT MOSPORT in open lapping, someone will crash and write-off a car. Since 1992 I have been at lapping days at Mosport and every single time at least 1 car has been stroked.

thanks for the heads up al. i think after the mazdas at mosport event in may, that will be my last time behind the wheel at mosport for a long time. Ive never had any real track experience and im sure the talent i think i have is just not there yet. lol. I think shannonville is nice and safe looking for a newb like me. how can you not guarantee 6 cars? thats just crazy. guess people have things to do on long weekends....im up for one or two of those for sure this year. hopefully theres enough interest to get at least 6 people to come out to one of them if you are still planning to do that. and if only 6 people come out, thats a hell of a lot of track time for so few cars.

Count me in for one or two also, cant do the may long weekend but there will be others.

I completely agree with what Al says about Mosport, i had my first experience on a track there in my 8 and the only reason we all made it through is because we all had performance driving lessons that morning at the track in our own cars.

Several members including myself have been to Calabogie a few times since it opened. You've got to drive that track to truly appreciate how much it is seemingly expressly built for a car like the RX-8 it's full of interesting turns, off camber and elevation change raceway in a beautiful forest environment - with WiFi access! What a blast!

Haa ha .. one tank to play, now that's funny...you 'd be amazed how much gas you can use on track...like 6-9mpg US. So it more like a refill after a couple 20min sessions.

Absolutely not true. There are I think like 22 turns on the track. The straights are there, but none are really any length to speak, the turns are why the track is a challenge. It's like a video came come to life actually. You can excel with practice and driving skill, but you only need a car and a helmet to learn.

You all sound interested and hopefully will see you sometime up at Calabogie. Novices just go slower and there's little chance of trouble when you heed your instructors advice. Just do it!

wow, do you work for the track or something? lol. you sell it pretty well. haha. I would really like to go, but all the gas is scaring me. i mean, if we were talking 3 tanks like footman said,t heres 150 bucks on a good day. then think if its maybe 4 tanks (two at the track instead of one) theres 200 bucks on gas in one weekend plus the entry price. wow. not cheap. "you gotta pay to play" comes to mind. lol. not that im not interested, just will have to make some sacrafices to be able to swing that more than once or twice.

The group that rents the track is Imagemotorsports, we just piggy back along with them. There are usually 20-40 cars showing up, but the track is never that busy. Thief, Kafka,Nate and few others came out last year, ask them if they had fun
