Easy one, Get a can of MAF Cleaner, Clean it. ($6.00, 15 minutes of work)
Harder, but helped a lot, is a grounding kit, one of the ebay ones is fine, just crimp the connectors. ($25 to $35, 2 hours, best post for that is https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...9&postcount=58, also best overall avatar)
When I did these two things, problem was solved.

Couple of things. On the MAF, the car "can" idle with a dirty MAF, just not as effectively. it is a little rough. If you add the compressor load, and the electrical load of the blower in the car, and the load of the radiator fans and whatever the AC clutch draws (probably not much), you are really trying to draw a lot of power at only like 750 RPM. If air and fuel and spark are not just right, it can miss, or at least not burn the fuel right. You get your air and fuel mixture from the MAF. MAF is also just a few minutes and $6. It made such a difference I did all my cars. My daughter commented the next day that the 6 was running better.
The grounding kit seems to make ignition happier, as well as the alternator, which is trying to generate the power to run all the electrical stuff.
The two together took my car from the problem you described, to idling wonderfully smooth in 90 plus degrees with the AC on hi (20 minutes today waiting for kid to get out of SAT). AC air temp was about 54 degrees, but that is the next problem to work.
Hope it helps.

what is this grounding kit?
I have bad idle sometiems i have the auto/2005 and when really hot out it gets bad..and since I have mazda maniac calibration I have a greater load on my car since my fans kick in sooner but that makes it run rougher too.

Grounding Kit....
Basically, the grounds (part of the car connected to the negative battery terminal) are less than wonderful. The system counts on the body of the car conducting the electricity. However, the attach points are painted, the connectors will oxidize, the bolts are not all that grand. The thread posted above is a little old, but is the best one I found. MM took resistance measurements before and after to document the improvement. What the kit consists of is thick wires you can use to connect up all the under hood ground connections. Then the car, paint on the car, and connectors are not part of the circuit. Someone here suggested electrical grease (Lowes, near the electrical wiring) and I used it to keep the connections good.
I would suggest both, in the order above. My low fans are on all the time (wire from relay to ground). I am saving up for MMAP, but need other stuff first.

I just cleaned my MAF sensor because of this thread and now my car idles much better !!
The can of electrical parts cleaner was $5 at Canadian Tire. Everyone should do this.

I just ordered this kit. It should be delivered this week. I'll post back how it works. My car idles very well. I'm just annoyed at the drop in RPM and rattle when the cooling fans turn on while the A/C is running. Hopefully, this will help.

If someone here finds another, post it, sound like a cheap fix.

If you go with the cheap ones, test the connectors. I would suggest re-crimping all of them. I had a bad one on every wire but one. I would suggest a re-crimp, not a pull test. I figured that one out after I pulled 6 out of 7 out. It was really hard to put them back in afterwards.

I ordered up this one from ebay.ca. This is actually the only one I could find on ebay... So we'll see how it goes.
