Its a small one on the lower passenger side, and my peripheral vision can barely see it when I drive, but its there.

A freakin dink with 2 small crack under it...

Footman and nate you got your windshield REPLACED? How much is it?

Or any other suggestion to fill it in order to stop the crack from spreading? I park my car outside now and I would hate to have it having cracked due to the rapid / huge temp change during the day...

If its a small crack you probably won't have to get the windshield replaced. Take it in asap to like apple auto glass or something like that and they will probably be able to fix it for really cheap without replacing it.

I have something similar on my windshield from a while back too! >< Actually i think i have two small stone chips, one from Shanonville and one from before that. Anyone know of a good place to fill them in and stop them from spreading?

i paid 270 including tax and install everywhere else was 450+ this is a repeatable price you just may need to come to london for it but being in toronto you may beable to find even cheaper

I haven't replaced mine yet, it's a 20 inch L-shaped crack now but it has stopped expanding.

I too am looking for a good place that uses OEM quality glass... Apple AUto glass was quoting $450 + taxes...

I've been quoted $270 range.. but they say it's aftermarket quality glass...

the piece of glass i now have in my car seems to be a better quality than the oem piece its clear and smooth unlike the old. **** because its new and mines an old 2004 with a 140 000km the old windshield was in rough shape

most people have windshield cracks / chip covered in their insurance. You should check that first. If it's just a chip, usually the insurance company will cover it. Take it to any windshield repair shops like apple auto glass. If it's a windshield replacement, the insurance company should still cover it and you probably just have to pay for the deductible.

I got my windshield replaced on my parents Subaru during the winter... the deductible was $300 but the dealership split the cost with me. So I ended up paying only $150 for a new windshield. It will also NOT affect your insurance rate.

If you really want to save money and if it's tiny enough (emphasis on tiny)... you can buy those windshield repair kits (roughyl $20??)... you basically inject a liquid that will seal up and dry (best with UV light / sun)... you just have to be careful not to over pressurize the liquid into the windshield glass. Aka. read the instructions

why wouldn't this affect your insurance rate? i was sure that any claim will raise your rates.

my mother called her insurance agent last yr to see how much her van window would cost. she decided to leave it and live with the crack a few weeks later the insurance company called and sent a letter explaining the she needed to provide proof that she had repaired the window shield and if not they would void her insurance.

Well from my experience it didn't affect my rates. If you want me to venture a reason, maybe cause it's NOT something I caused out of negligence for the claim... or it's just part of the insurance plan..

With regards to your mom's insurance being voided.. once the insurance company knows there's "fault" with your vehicle, I believe they can easily void your insurance simply due to the fault. Like on a more serious note, lets say they found out your axle has a crack a month ago. You then drive over a bump on the road.. and next thing you know.. your car's in the ground... i don't think you can claim insurance for that... (that's just my logical guess)

Just go to any Canadian Tire...they shall have stone chip repair "outside" the store. My friend has his TLs done for $85.

You can either pay a shop to do it, or buy a windshield repair kit at Canadian Tire for $20. I did a DIY repair two years ago. It wasn't as good as Apple auto glass, but it did it's job keeping water and ice out of the crack.

Shopping around is important. I've never seen such a varience in price with windshield repairs. Shops typically have a rate if you're going through insurance and another rate if you're paying yourself.

i wonder how insurance companys feel knowing that they typically pay more at shops for the same work than the average consumer. i'm sure this is part of the reason why we pay such high insurance rates.

i know most shops when doing a job that insurance is paying for they don't cut any corners, while doing a job for the average person they normally ask do you want everything new and replaced or do you want used parts and to replace only the bare minimum?

A cracked or chipped windshield is a real headache. Usually the crack or chip gets larger over time and then ruins the whole windshield...which is expensive. I've noticed a few things I instinctively do while driving to avoid this problem. I'll share them with you visit this site. Keep a good distance around your car from other cars and be aware of where they are.

A lot of insurance companies have zero cost glass replacement policies, since a broken window/windshield would be considered a driving hazard that could lead to a more serious accident in which they would end up paying more.

Check with your provider to see if they offer this. If it is a small chip, I would leave it be, unless it starts spreading. If you drive on public roads, you pretty much have to expect these things to happen...

Why don't you try sealing it with a crack repair kit? You can buy DIY kits off of sites like https://crackeraser.com/. Probably much cheaper than going to an auto shop. They rip you off left and right. Hope this helps!
