Speeding ticket help!

Hello my fellow 8 drivers. I have a question...
What is the best way to fight a speeding ticket?!? I have less than 2 weeks to figure it out.
I was caught doing 97km/h in a 60 zone (lakeshore in Toronto). I was late for a class one Sunday morning and I figured I could go a bit faster...it’s my first standard car and I was making sure my clutch wasn’t slipping. Who would have thought there would be a speed trap at 8am on a Sunday?!?
I am a starving actor and I can’t afford insurance if they jack up my fees.
Half the people say to fight it myself in court, the other half say to hire one of the Ex-copper type places to fight it for me.

Any suggestions?

I don't know man ... 37km/h over the limit is pretty hard to explain. I think the best bet would be to go with trafficticketsolutions to see if they can prevent it from showing on your record and no demerit points --> even if you have to pay the full price of the ticket (w/o a record/demerit) it is worth it in the long run.

what does going over the speed limit have to do with your clutch slipping? I don't get it.

That's not as bad as a 40 something over... ....I was in the country...no other cars...go figure...

Anyways I'd take it to court. I went myself and instead of losing 4 points they lowered it to 3 and I didn't have to pay as much. Try to get all the points removed. I couldn't so they lowered it to the maximum allowed even though it was my 1st ticket in 15yrs or so!

Good luck!

A clutch will start slipping at higher speeds because of wind resistance on the car. I had a friend that wasn't able to go faster than 70 MPH with his Audi. The car was running fine. It would rev in lower gears. I just had problems going faster on the highway. I suggested it may be the clutch slipping and that turned out to be the solution.

haha similar thing happened to me. I was doing 31 over and 4 points. The OPP office gave me the full amount I went over. I went to court and they lowered it to 3 and reduced the fine. They also wouldn't go down to only 15km/h over with zero points cuz of my ticket 9 years ago - when I still had my G2! My friend who's a peel region cop says OPP's aren't the nicest out there (to put it mildly). He said if he pulled a guy over with an almost clean record like that, he would have at least reduced the speed they were over.

Hahaha dropping the windows... I did that when I got pulled over for no lights (first day I got the car). I wonder if my tints are darker, or if Leesha's are.

If you choose to go with a paralegal service, I'd recommend Redline Legal Services for fighting tickets. Most of the others consider a win to be getting the ticket reduced, which you can easily do yourself by just speaking with the crown before the case is called on the day of your trial (you can also do this earlier - before the trial date gets set, but from the sound of it, you're past that date). Redline will actually try to fight the ticket for you.

Remember, up until you go past the 50 and over the limit mark, your insurance company views all tickets the same - each one is a minor. Doesn't matter to them whether you were doing 5 over or 35 over, whether you got points against your license from it or not. The only ones who care about the points is the province, so don't think getting it knocked down to 14 over and no points is going to matter one whit to your insurer. With most insurance companies, they'll forgive one, possibly two minors on your record. Generally your third minor wins you a premium increase. Other speeds of 50 and over as well as careless or impaired driving are considered major and even one of these on your record will often come with an insurance hike (assuming they've pulled your abstract of course).

Anyway, because of this you should always fight each and every ticket - at the very least on the off chance the cop doesn't show up, but you should always ask for disclosure and then read up on fighting tickets. Or, as mentioned, you can hire a paralegal.

Not true...depends on the underwriting rules. 15 could be the threshold. Or 25...or 35...etc...

I have spoken with dozens of brokers representing almost every insurance company in Ontario when I've shopped for insurance and have never once encountered one company who did not consider 49 over the limit as the threshold for what counted as a minor ticket (as far as speeding is concerned).

Take it for what it's worth.

Regardless, the main point I was trying to get across to the OP was that there is often a misconception that only tickets with points against them matter to your insurance company or driving record, which is not the case at all. So reducing a ticket to one with no points (max 14 over) only affects your license standing with the province and does nothing for how your insurance company views the ticket. Hence, you should fight them whenever your caught and fined.

Well, well, I'm not alone. I'd fight it. I took mine to court myself. I was doing 40something over and all the did was lower my points from 4 to 3 and cut my fine in almost 1/2.

Don't hire someone because you will have to pay them and the fine. I skipped the attendance thingy they have and went straight to court.

My rates are still the same so don't worry about it. At least you still have your car...lol...

Dude, my friend just used No Points Traffic Tickets for two tickets he got on his motorcycle. One was a stunt driving, the other was speeding. Swear to god, he was facing 11 points for the two tickets combined. No Points Traffic Tickets got him off both tickets-completely gone. No Points, no fine -nada! My buddy couldn't believe it! Getting off one ticket that's luck...two when both court dates was a month apart? Spam or no spam...that's mad skills. My buddy said they're pretty cheap too! Here's their website if anyone needs to check them out: www.nopointstraffictickets.com.
