Speed of our cars

Is it just me that's getting used to driving the car that I find the car really slow below 4000 rpm?

I drive mostly city, and in many cases, I find myself in 2nd gear at around 15km/h and I need to accelerate and it just feels so sluggish from 1000 rpm to 4000 rpm, and then it feels some pull afterwards...

Am I just too used to this car now that I no longer feel "the power" that it had when I had just got the car coming from a 1.6L Civic with 105 HP?

Car is at 38,000 km by the way.

Cause when I sit on my friend TTS...I find the feeling...=.="....
this is why I am start modding the car XD lol
by the way I am changing the ignition wires hope it has a little improve when I hit the gas.
still suffering on the intake n the clutch =.="
I just want the car to be more sensitive...

Yeah after driving the beater through the winter, I get back in the 8 and it feels so powerful. Now it's just... normal.

the car is slow below 4000 rpms.

it took you 24000 miles to figure that out?

I personally redline it once on anyday I drive the 8 out...
but I really do like redline it @ the traffic lights @ Steels n Woodbine by going south from woobine to 404 south. If anyone saw an 8 doing this...it probably is me...

ON True test of speed

Who here reading this thread has been to a drag track with their 8's ?

I ask because I'm going on Friday and am beginning to source out tips on what RPM to launch from and usage of DCS and Trac systems on or off.

I've heard a stock 8' (like mine w/ 33,000km) should be able to accomplish a 14.2 - 14.4 in the quarter mile.

I'll keep you guys posted on my performance at Cayuga this Friday.

I am rarely below 4k while driving because the car doesn't function in that range. Even in the city, keep your revs up and the car is great. If don't do that (keep revs up above 4k) because you're worried about gas mileage, you bought the wrong car IMHO...

Drag strip + RX8 = waste of time IMHO. Rx8 is a track car, not a dragster.

Try removing the VFAD, you'll gain a little low end torque... by little, I mean a very very small minuscule gain in torque.

Why, why, why are you in 2nd at this speed.... in first gear the car is barely over 2000rpm. We all know that the 8 is happiest over 4000rpm......

idle speed 1st gear = 7km/h
idle speed 2nd gear = 12 km/h

So I was at around 1000 rpm at 15km/h...

trying to accelerate in 2nd gear at 1000rpm is painful... feels about as slow as 100 HP car. Mash the throttle in, nothing happens... LOL

Maybe it's just me hanging around 3000 - 4000rpm in city driving... I'll try to use up to 3rd only today in city driving.

Why on earth would you EVER be at 1000 RPM other than when you are stopped

city driving, rush hour.... in the heart of Toronto. I frequently am toiling around idle and 4000 rpm... it's all stop and go movements

I say, its a rotary, don't drive it like it has pistons :P 4000+ RPM won't hurt it i only shift below 3000 - 4000 when the car isn't warmed up yet, once the engine is at temperature it stays above 4k... but that's just me...

Remove the VFAD. No speed improvement but eliminates the pause you get at the 5k transition and breathes a bit better below that threshold.

so why are you complaining that the car is slow if you're stop and go? seems like you're not in a very good position to make any claims about the car's performance. just sayin.

Even during rush hour on the DVP I'll stay in first as long as I can before shifting to 2nd. I try not to shift till I've hit 35kph or so.

I just got my summer tires installed and 8 serviced. I think my 8 is just faster and much responsive now. Everytime I look at the speed, I am over and I am not even red-lining it or on high gears! When turning, I dont see the need to brake and slow down as 8 just turns on a dime and sticks to the road.

But ya... below 3000-4000, it feels as if ur strolling in the park rather than driving!

besides... The engine only wakes up past 4000 rpm...
