Spark Plugs - question
Spark Plugs - question
grrr, so I'm a little pissed about this one, but here's a quick run down of what my rant is about.
I've had my rx8 since 2004, it's been running great, still feels like a new car. It's been experiencing some odd flooding issues the past year or so (flooded a few times since last summer). Each time the plugs were *apparently* changed, etc, etc.
So now this past week my father decided to take it out for a drive, car doesn't start, car gets towed back to the dealership. They came back and said my plugs haven't been changed in a long time so they wanted to do a full replacement. Now this is what really pissed me off, they just quoted me $459 for deflood and spark plugs. apparently plugs cost 360 + labor? am i missing something here? are these plugs made of gold? I searched the forum and didn't see any real indication other than the mazda part should cost 20 bucks per plug. Unless i need 18 plugs I really feel like they're ripping me off..

Thumper's got it right, the markup is huge on those things... pick some up and do it yourself
by the way who "apparently" changed your plugs. I would go after them and find out if they even did anything the last time.

I just got some from https://www.fluidmotorsports.com for $80+shipping! you can change then spark plugs your self in like 20 min. Its really eazy. My friend took his 8 in and they charged him over 500.00 for coils and new plugs. Crazy stuff. But its like 95.50 an hour where I'm at.
500 for plugs and coils that's good, I got charged just over 700 for plugs and wires, before I knew jack about our cars. ouch! And would have cost me another 400+ for coils and install. I love this forum

DIY!!! I'm sure there are some local guys that are willing to give you a hand. If not, read up on the forums in the DIY spark change. If you don't have a spark plug tool, there's one at Canadian Tire that has a "bendable" head for about $15. I couldn't have done my plugs with just my regular ratchet. Good luck!

You guys need to start taking you RX8s to a couple of auto-slalom's per year so that you can qualify for competition via MazdaSpeed Motorsports team support.
I got coils, plugs and "Mazdaspeed" (Taylor) plug wires for about $200 as I recall.
