This should defintely be reported!

Hey guys,

A couple of days ago my buddies from work and I went to lunch and I took this video:

This should definitely be reported and made a law for the snow to be cleaned off trailers cuz it's a big hazard to other drivers behind them! One of my buddies mentioned that they should use the same technique as they use in airports to clean the top of the plane; using a strong spray of water or something maybe? What do you guys think about this?

God Bless you guys!

Ben.

P.S. Before you guys say it hehe, I'm not accountable for my friend swearing at the end!

Thats what happens when you drive a truck in the snow. Get over it. Like to see you get up there on 15ft ladder and clean it then get back in the truck and drive 18hrs

Hey I understand yoru frustration and that it's not easy for truck drivers to clean it, but it was just a suggestion that maybe they could come up with a way to ensure that this was cleaned, maybe at a truck-wash or truck-stop or something....didn't forcibly say it was feasible, but it is really dangerous for other drivers!

You can get a ticket for that around here.

A rolling truck gathers no snow. That's from snow falling on a stationary truck, and the trucker driving off without cleaning it off. I personally don't care how long the trucker has to drive - I have work too. I do care about being able to see while I'm driving behind the truck.

You might change your opinion if you ever get hit by a 8 inch thick 6' X 8' piece of snow/ice from the top of one of those trucks.

Last week I followed some van onto the highway and as soon as it picked up speed a sheet of ice flew off the roof at me. Luckily there was no one in the lane to the left of me when I swerved hard like a typical Masshole.

Regardless, Your still in the snow. My Dad drove trucks all his life. Ask me how I know?!

ChristInBen,
My apologies for being rude to you. But trucking is not a 9-5 go home to you wife and kids everyday office job.

No worries man! I was just concerned for the peeps (including myself) driving behind trucks with snow coming off the roofs, cuz it really is a hazard.

And I'm with Ben on this.
I don't expect the truck driver to get up there and clean the snow off but the owning company should be responsible for providing some solution to remove snow and especially ice.
I've seen huge ice sheets come off trucks (and cars, and yes there is no excuse for not cleaning off your car).

It's more like this, you live, you work, you own a business in Canada.... clean off your f'n vehicle!!!

Gotta laugh Dominion your location states you are in Vegas..... unless you've lived a significant amount of your life in a cold climate your opinion here is worthless.

I would expect truck drivers to clean off large amounts of snow or ice that accumulates on top of their trucks before they start their day. As the driver you take responsibility for the safety of your vehicle. Just the same as when you make sure your load is secure, or check your brakes before a steep incline. It's your job. The same thing applies to all drivers.

Dominion, sounds like you're a bit jaded - explain to us how it's possible that insuring the safety of other drivers is too much of a bother for truck drivers. Snow and ice accumulation like that coming off on a highway can kill someone.

Plus you're in Vegas, do you have any first hand experience with this? Are you even a Canadian? If your answer is no to either of these questions, then I would respectfully ask you to leave this section of the forum to those with opinions that matter.

I agree. We are all responsible. And you are right Mobile, it is the driver's responsibility. This falls under the PRE TRIP inspection, where brakes must be tested, air lines, tires, load security, etc etc etc.. It is the company's responsibility they have the equipment needed to do it properly.

My husband is a truck driver, and luckily does not have to clear the snow off as his truck goes out almost every day. Granted, when it does snow and it builds up, they have these long brushes there and the guys are expected to clean it off. If its iced on, guess where they go. The wash bay.

I have never been hit with ice from a truck, but I have been hit with ice from a Dodge dually . Not only did it scare the living crap out of me, I lost a windshield because of it.

Safety first!
