Exclamation Michelin vs Dunlop

I'm stuck between the Dunlop Sport M3s or the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA/2s.

If money is no object on those, and sizing being either 215/50/17 (H for Dunlop) (V for Michelin) or 225/50/17 or 225/55/17? (can't seem to find the 215/55/17s).

I'm planning on mounting these to a set of new Konig Trouble Graphites (17x7 5x114.3 45 offset).

What would you choose based on the brand and size?

Michelin vs Dunlop

Err sorry I think for hijacking the thread.

My earlier post should have read:

215/50/17
215/55/17
225/50/17
or 225/55/17

Which is the better size and then the brand?

Mic Jagger - I'd personally pay the extra for the better quality tire. I never liked the Graspics.

Several recommendations of winter tires in all categories, from different makers.
Make sure you choose from the right category. The Graspic is a tire designed more for a regular passenger car.
I am partial to Michelins, but alot of people were happy last year with the Toy garrit ht tires.

A friend of mine from the RX-7 club is having a huge discount going on for all size tires...

If you're in need of tires send me a PM and I'll see what he can do...

With the sophistication of the DSC on our cars, you want to ensure you get the hight of the tire as close as you can to the originals, because you can expect DSC to take over and be very busy during the winter months. I understand that the DSC is calibrated for our tire size so be sure to get as close as you can to the same size. Your life may depend on it!

Well, I'll need the exact model of tires to get acurate quotes...

So which Toyo's, Michelin's and Bridgestones are you looking for?
And specifically what size and rating...

I'm getting a quote for jgibbons so if you can give me some exact models, my friend can look up all of them at once...

I would still lean for the Bridgestones. But that's just me... I know the Toyo is a good tire for summer peformance... I don't know what they're winter setup is like...

There's a reason why everyone knows what a Blizzak is!

Marketing is the only reason most people associate "blizzaks" with winter tires.
Gord from Calgary posted some consumer reports data that showed the Blizzaks were really not that great.
Check out my link above and make your choice.
Many people used the Toyo garrit last year and thought it was a great winter performer.

Winter Tires

Ended up grabbing the following yesterday:

Konig Troubles - Graphite 17x7 5x114.3 45 offset ($210 taxes in per wheel - Tiretrends sold out so I bought from Ohio)

Dunlop Sport M3 215/50/17 91V (not H) - $240 per tire (taxes in) - *rare to find in stock*

$1829 (taxes in) for everything including shipping/mount/etc.

Solid deal I think.

jgibbons, let us know how/when they arrived and if there were any further surprises i.e. duty, brokerage fees etc.. I was told by someone else that there is an additional 10-15% that you get charged later on after they arrive.

Alright guys... Here's what my friend can do for you guys....

Dunlop 215/55/17 Graspic DS2 Q rated .. 695.00
Dunlop 225/50/17 Sport M3 H rated ... 990.00
Michelin Pilot Alpine 225/50/17 V rated 1200.00
Toyo Garit 215/55/17 H rated . 840.00

All prices are tax in for a set of 4 tires.
Prices will probably be cheaper depending on how many sets are ordered and
when they are ordered.
If you find a better price, let me know and I'll try to beat it =)

So there you have it....

re: Tires

I'll let you know when they get here, but that price for the rims includes the tax/duty of 15% here in Ontario.

The tires are in Owen Sound so nothing additional (except standard 15% tax - which is included above).

Like I said, pretty good deal.

Well, I put the info up just in case somebody else would be interested... I'm not sure if it's with a steely but my friend will get back to me...

I hate having to adjust to taxes and other ****... I prefer to view the bottom line! That's what "All in" means! The bottom line... No more hidden BS!

I got the Talon Tire group buy with the Toyo Garit HT and FRD6 as written up somewhere else in this forum. I ordered it on Thursday and it got here today - Tuesday! WOW! I couldn't believe the delivery time to ship them from Montreal to Vancouver in that short a period!

Kudos to Talon Tire for the quick delivery!

I just put together a decent package that breaks down as follows:

4 x FRD Racing 128 (Silver) Wheels, 17" x 7" x 114.3 = $597.80 (with shipping)
4 x Hankook W300 Ice Bear 205/50/17 OR 225/50/17 tyres = $597.91 (with shipping)

+ $83.70 (tax)

TOTAL: $1279.41 including shipping mounting and balancing.

Good deal? And if so, would you go for the 225's or the 205's? I'm personally thinking the 205's as narrower tyres are better in the snow as a rule.
