^ As far as I know we have to be hands free by Oct. 1/09
Telco's fought this tooth & nail, but the statistics won 6 to 10 ten more likely to have a accident while talking, texting, emailing, etc. etc.
That's why there's the big push from bell, rogers to go hands free e.g.. fastlane by bell.
I could be wrong on the date my wife also got a memo at work she thought it's the 28th

Technically the law's been passed for a while... but it's still going to be 'light enforcement' (aka cops will tag you when they want to meet a quota / want to **** you off...)

Don't get me wrong, I think this law is the best thing since sliced bread (or the internet...), but the way it leaves so much space for abuse

How does a cop get evidence that you did that? I mean if you want to fight it in court and say "I wasn';t doing that, police officer, where is your proof?"

call records? probably, they'll just have to specify the time and your cell phone provider will be able to verify whether you were on the phone or not...i guess?

I thought that's invasion of privacy and requires special warrant to search through personal phone records.

In order for cops to get a hold of your cell phone records, they must have a warrant and deal with the legal department.

^ so if what Eddie says its true.. how can one easily get convicted in court? Or is this one of those "absolute liability" laws like parking tickets.... you can't go to court and say that "you weren't parked there at that time, and ask the court for proof"

Footman.... because as usual... the court will take the cop's word over yours.

Fun fact: If you break another law (speeding, no turn signal, whatever else) while on the phone they can automatically slap on a careless driving charge.

cell phones ban what the issue

Re: cell phones ban(handheld device) what the issue:
It will make the roads safer for all of us. Maybe people will actually pay attention to their driving instead of texting some other idiot(who is probably also driving) while driving in the left (passing) lane at 60-80 km with a line of traffic behind them a mile long with no one in front of them for another mile.... enough is enough.
Admit it we all been there^

You can still use your handheld device just hand-free e.g. bluetooth, headsets etc.

As someone who works for a cell company, I have to say I'm quite happy with the law's introduction. When people are talking, they should concentrate on talking. And when they're driving, they should concentrate on driving. Seeing people driving while on the phone pisses me the **** off.

Most Sony Ericsson headsets are pretty good. Motorola H500 is also pretty good. I have a Motorola H565 for myself, and I bought my dad a Sony Ericsson HBH-PV705. I'm not actually sure if the H565 ever came out for sale... I see stuff on Motorola's various sites that include that as a model number, but I don't seem to see it on Motorola's Canadian site.

YOU ARE SERIOUSLY A DANGEROUS DRIVER! it's people like you who cause the stereotype that 'all' sports car drivers are reckless. you DON'T CUT INTO THE SHOULDER LANE TO PASS OTHER CARS going at abt 140-150 km/h +!!!
dude you didn't happen to play with a dark grey wrx while you were on the 403? made me miss having an rx8 (i was on my way to michigan through your fair country, saw the VR he wasn't game, but if it was you, you were for a bit so cheers )

Jawbone Prime is good, but overpriced. The Sound ID300 is really good, designed by a Stanford University Prof specializing in Hearing Aid Devices, the Plantronics stuff is good to, like the 925, which is what I use, or the Voyager Pro which is the best in the market right now, clunky thou, but gets the job done really well. The BlueAnt stuff is also good, especially the V1, since it helps you get around the lack of Voice Dialing thru Headset issue on the iPhone.

Josh, if you see anything you like, let me know, and I'll get it for you.

There's also a coupon you can use to get 30% off all headsets over 69.99 at Best Buy right now.

Spotted Mr. B on Yonge St. on my way to the NewMarket Best Buy. Tried to race me in his winter beater, STREET RACER!!!
