RX-8 destroyed in test drive - CTV

This mornig CTV reported that a 19 years old took a black RX-8 for a test drive. He lost control and destroyed the car. The salesman told the media that he tried to make the driver slow down.

However, they did not mention that they allowed a test drive with summer racing tires in cold weather.

When will Mazda salespeople learn about the car handling ?

I know which incident you were talking about, it was a Mazda6.

He was going 140km/h and was racing somebody. The Black Mazda6 was from Morningside Mazda.

On my only test drive, I had it up to about 88 to 90 mph in beautiful 70 plus weather on a four lane highway with salesman in passenger's seat. But in winter, in a sporty sedan and racing it sure still sounds like wishful destruction of personal property to me. John

PS Also at 51 with 33 years of driving experience and nearly 20 years of sports car driving, it was a lot safer in the RX8 I was driving than in one driven by a 19 year old.

Did this make the paper? If so does anyone have a link?
I hope this person has to pay every last dime for the new car he smashed up or the dealership sues.

I didn't see this news on any of the paper. I just saw it on the news on TV. Here's what I know:

- Driver: 19 year old male of Indian Origin
- Sales: 23 year old male also of Indian Origin
- Black Mazda6 from Morningside Mazda
- Speeding around the Markham road area
- Racing someone along the way
- Going at around 140km/h on a local road
- crashed on a bridge, over pass area
- car bursted into flames right away
- Driver quickly got out
- Passenger was injured
- Policed came and stuffed the driver into the back of the Crusier
- Going to be Charged with dangerous driving.

I had a chat with a young Indian guy (about 22 to 26) at Mornningside Mazda once inquiring about the RX-8. Hope it was not him in the passenger seat.

I dunno actually, but the news report specificially mentioned that.

Just reporting what I heard on TV. Definitely not trying to start anything here.

I know you're not trying to start anything. The story would have the same effect if it wasn't mentioned (I think).

I remember when the RX7 was still out there was a sales who took a client out for a test drive and crashed due to excessive speed and killed the client who sat in the passenger seat...
It's interesting what media chooses to report these days.... there was a really funny (what the kid said later) incident in vancouver 2 yrs ago where some little girl was injured in a hit and run and then the newsreporter asked the little boy who was with the girl what happened and the kid said "This truck hit my friend and then they didn't stop and my friend was hurt and then somebody stopped and got out of a van and helped.... *pause* and they were chinese people" I LOL and was like at the same time

Why do people get so upset when you mention what race somebody is?
So they are Indian. Knowing that doesn't make you go "Oh, so thats why they crashed!". He is just Indian.
Its just a data point and a fact - he is Indian. Its nice to know. Its just a relevant as it was a male or it was daytime. It is inherently meaningless with regard to the outcome of the story, but it gives us a reference just like the sky is blue and the tree is green.
Why are people so afraid to say somebody looks a certain way or appears to be of a certain race. It is a fact of who we are.
If the listener is too immature in though to separate a person's appearance from their actions, not mentioning their race wont make them any more mature.

I just don't think it adds to the story. It's about a test drive that went wrong.

well... I don't think ppl (here) are upset, it's just something that stands out you know?
like.... say for example while reporting on the war in Iraq:
50 ppl were injured today from a car bomb. Incidentally, the suicide bomber ate McDonald's for breakfast.
it's just "outta the blue"?
and it's interesting how the Canadian government has banned publishing of crime data or survey with regards to race. Yet the media is free to publish whatever they want.
