RX-8 for big drivers

Hi,

I'm 6' 3"- 4" and weight 395 lbs.

What would I have to do to the RX-8 so I can fit in it ?

Any comments or suggestions would be highly welcomed information.

Race seats that sit lower? Get rid of the power/heated seats that sit high.

Just an idea.

Buy the GS model. No sun roof=better head room. Then you may have to get different seats.

Would race seats help with the lack of not having a telescoping steering wheel ?

+1 on no sunroof. But legroom might be your problem.
My husband is 6'3" and complains constantly about how small the car is. He has the passenger seat all the way back, and has to lean the seat back as well so he doesnt touch the roof (sunroof).
Drivers seat isnt much better. He said that he can barely see where he is going, the mirror is really in the way, and shoulder checking was complicated.

There are some other guys on here though that are tall and say they have no issues at all.. have you tried sitting in one/driving it yet?

I'm 6' 3", 244 lbs and I haven't had a problem with my RX-8 yet. I even take my 3 and 5 year olds to school in it (they sit indian style in the back seats, the 3 year old in a full car seat).

The only issue really is when I take it to the track and wear my helmet. I have to lean my seat back a little because of the roof clearance. I have the GT so the sunroof is there, but I fit just fine. I wish the steering wheel would go up higher though.

Won't replacing the seats in the 8 throw off the airbag sensors? From what I've read, the 8 has sensors in the seat to tell the car where the driver is sitting (i.e. how close or far from the steering wheel) for airbag deployment.

I'm suprised your husband has issues; my bother in law is 6'7' and can sit in my car comfortably. The issue I have is my shoulers are really broad so lateral space is the biggest issue, but not a big enough issue to make it uncomfortable. To the post starter; why dont you go sit in one and find out?

im not trying to be ignorant, but if you weigh 395, i would suggest losing a bit of weight. im 6'7" and fluctuate between 260-280, and dont have any problems, but my buddy, who is about your height, and weighs around 340-360, has some difficulty getting in and out.

You're not being ignorant, you're just being an ***.

Otherwise OP, I don't see how you'd be comfortable in the 8. It feels snug for me, and I'm 215.

I read the RX-8 brochure and you can order a GT model without the sunroof. As far as aftermarket seats go.

What do would you guys suggest for an aftermarket seat ?

I.E. Make, Model, ETC.

I'm about 6'2" and 300lbs, Ive owned both (Sunroof and no sunroof) I fit in the car just fine, and really IMHO the sunroof thing? for some reason i didnt notice that much a difference, I would just head to a dealer and sit in a few, see how she fits, because everyone is going to be different. And even though you fit in the car, also IMHO, nothing looks more silly than when we are getting out of it =)

So Hitmann your saying if I get down to 260lbs. Which means me losing 140lbs. I shouldn't have any problems fitting an 8 with a sunroof.
