They did not replace your mudguards. They replaced the inner wheel well lining on front left and front right.

 

Any BC'er got this recall? It seems that its the Ontario and Prairie folks that have chimed in so far.... I know they get more snow than us Lower Mainlanders. But still....

 

It takes a lot longer if you also need the hoses from the engine. The replacement procedure talks about the possibility that these have to be changed as well if there are excessive rust issues. This happened to me but there are no more such hoses available in North America and they are back ordered. My car has been at the dealer's for about two weeks now. Last time I had a loaner for 2 months because they couldn't get hold of an upgraded starter.

 

I got my recall done on this a couple of weeks ago.

Left the car there for the day as they had to diagnose half a dozen other issues and do both this recall and the gas tank one.

 

I did. I had the service done during an oil change about 3-4 weeks ago. It took about 4-5 hours, but the dealer gave me a rental for the time.

 

My 2004 had the oil line steel pipe corrosion problem in the wheel well, enough so that it started a leak that was about .05 cm stream of oil flow out of the hole. I notified Mazda USA of the problem and asked about the Canadian SSP 76. I was advised under no circumstances did it apply to US cars. Took the car to dealer and advised them of the problem and as Mazda USA said to do had them notify the regional representative to examine my complaint. I was advised that the regional reps decision was final and there were no avenues of appeal. The car has 11200 miles, and I do all of my own work on it. I purchased the car with 4000 miles on it in Dec 2005.

The Regional Rep and Dealer said Mazda would cover NO costs associated with the repair. Here in WV they tend to use a lot of salt on the roads as well, and you can see from the miles, I use it as a daily driver (appx 150 a day). I originally purchased the hose assembly from the dealer (300+ USD) to repair the vehicle and became frustrated when the engine side connectors were corroded and fused as well.

When I saw the posts here concerning the same issue I had hope .. but it was not to be.

I did file a report with the NHSTB concerning the safety issue of oil on the brakes and tires and all the safety and other reports on this and other vehicles may be seen at http://www.mycarstats.com .

Total cost was ~700 USD since the engine side connectors from the fitting had to be replaced as well.

I have attached the two notices as reported by Ford for Mazda to the NHSTB.

Fortunately in WV we have a Magistrates Court System. It costs 25$ to file and they settle cases less than $5000. I have the recall notices, the reciepts and will file in Magistrates Court for the repair and rental (it took 8 days to repair) against Mazda USA.

112000 miles? Do you premix?

Mine took over a month. Components were rusted back to the engine and the extra parts were backordered. Mazda paid for it all including the rental.

It will be interesting to see how you fare with your lawsuit. Good luck.

 

by premix, I assume you mean premix oil in the gasoline. I do not. I use Pennzoil 5-20 and run mid-grade gasoline. It takes a while for the fuel control computer to adjust to the lower octane (89 vs 92) but it seems to do fine.

Most all of the miles are highway at 70+ mph .. as a matter of fact I am still running the original brake pads -- just to demonstrate how "highway" the miles are.

 

I walked out this morning to be greeted by my car sitting in a puddle of oil and my driver side wheel having a nice coat... I looked all over, thinking maybe I didn't have the dip stick in all the way, or the oil cap was loose, and alas all was tight... I then started it up and could see a stead stream coming from the lower engine bay, but couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from.... Now I know, and seeing as how it isn't covered by Mazda USA, I'm hoping that the extended warranty I purchased will cover it. If Not, then I guess Xmas will be a bit tighter this year..

 

I took mine in yesterday for some completely unrelated work to be done. I was told everything would take about two hours to do so I said I'd just wander around the lot and showroom. After about three hours of 'window' shopping and chatting up the receptionist I asked the service guy how long it would be and he said a few more hours and would probably have to stay the night. I had to walk home (about 10kms so nothing really terrible) because my brother was in class and their shuttle was getting it's brakes changed.

Why aren't I given a loaner for a day or two?

 

I had to replace mine on my own dime. Actually $1000 and that was just labor. I got some used for $200.

That is true. It's just that the same problem is happening in the US too.

So are all the US folks this is happening too writing letters of protest to Mazda as well as the NHTSA? Seems like a good idea.

 

Any luck with that lawsuit dustoff? My '04 just had a massive oil leak from the driver's side cooler line, I'm so glad the oil warning light came on and I paid attention to it right away. Looked to me like pretty much all the oil came out. Had it towed to dealer in case it was engine problem (I'm at 98.5K). Dealer wanted $2400 to replace the lines, and insisted on replacing ALL the cooler lines (both sides) even though only one was rusted through. I had it towed home and I'm waiting for part to replace the one ruptured line.

Before I had it towed from the dealer, I called Mazda USA, they refused to help, even though I mentioned the Canada recall. Mazda just lost me as a customer. Oil cooler lines should not rust through in 5 years at a cost of $2400.

Also filed complaint with NHTSA. Oil all over the brakes and tires.

 

Well, i got new tires. the guy comes out and says, "you have an oil leak.". Rusted oil cooler lines. Any of the American's get a fix for this yet?


what are the part numbers needed for a 'bare-bones' fix?

is this something i should try to change myself?

i have a 2004 with 57,000 miles.

 

There is no recall for the USA although there obviously should be.

I fixed it for $400 versus paying the stealer $2400.

I did not replace all of the lines as only the driver's side was leaking. I replaced the double hose line off the oil cooler and the line to the engine, both on the driver's side. Not sure I needed the one to the engine but it made things easier. I also bought the connector that connects to the line that goes to the passenger side ($29). You could probably get two of these and reuse the line to the engine depending on its condition. I have air tools which made disconnecting the line to passenger side easy. It would be difficult without an air gun or another person to help. You definitely need a 23mm hex socket for the bolts (not a common size) on the engine and oil cooler. I cut the line to the passenger side and used a 32mm socket on an air gun to separate the lines.

Part numbers:
driver's side assembly: N3H1-14-830H
engine outlet hose: N3H1-14-710D

You will also need washers.

I got my parts from Rosenthal Mazda and they were great to deal with.

 

Holy crap thats a HUGE and deadly accident waiting to happen! I can't believe that Mazda is leaving you USA guys/gals out to dry like this?!?!?

I had this recall done, but then Mazda forgot to put the screws back in the under car side splash guards causing them to bend down on the highway and chewing them to shreds...

I got home yesterday, parked, came back out later and moved my 8 into the lawn for washing, and there was a rather large fresh oil slick on the ground under where my nose was. Scared the crap out of me, but no amount of searching could find even damp residue on anything. It wasn't there yesterday morning, and i made sure to park where I would be able to see any new spots this morning, but nothing. No idea what that was or why, but makes me wonder if something caused it to 'spurt' when it shut it off or started it back up. Oil level is still fine, though I now have a 4g jug of oil instead of just the quart in the back seat. Paranoid.

 

Given your snowy location and it's an '05, I would inspect the lines on the driver's side. Mine were so corroded they were crumbling.

 

I'm thinking of applying a thin layer of bearing grease to the oil line fittings. Mine have some rust, but it's not too serious. However the bearing grease should slow the process and protect the metal as well.

 

I've never received my recall notice, what gives?

 

I had been informed about this cooler hose replacement recall thing like 6 months ago from Avante Mazda, but they said they can do it for me on my next oil change.......... wow, didn't know end up it took you one day to let them do the work......... anyhow, sometime it depends on how busy the Service Dept is, i guess.......

I never got the recall mail letter though, just the dealer told me verbally....
