So as you know from my WTB thread. IM looking for an Rx-8 to buy from the states and im looking to import it to Canada. So i jus have a couple questions regarding proof that the car has been well maintained before i buy.

1) So i asked my Service guy if i were to give him the VIN of the car i want to buy if he could get me a recall letter. He asked me if it would be an American VIN and i said yes (because im buying it from the US). He said that its different systems and that i would have to get the saler to get one for me from the american dealership. Is this true ? I swore i saw someone who got a recall letter from local dealership and the guy was buying the car from the states.

2) Also isnt a carfax and a recall letter the same thing ?

1) Get they guy you are buying it from in the states to get it and send you a copy. U need it for the border. Mazda here can check if you need any recalls on a vin, but you need the letter which I believe has to come from the US Mazda.

2) No carfax is not the same. That is just maintenance/accidents on the car. GL with the buy.

 

^ Correct. Or just walk in to any dealer in the US with the car, they can easily print off the letter.

seriously... how lazy can you be...google carfax and you will see it isn't.
Same as buying any other car, what would you do? Ask for any records, I only did carfax on mine.
