Rear Sway Bar Problem
1 Attachment(s)
Guys,
I have a bit of an issue. I removed my rear sway bar for my suspension install because an endlink was too rusted to remove. The problem is when I tried to put the sway bar back I broke the bolt it sits on. It must have been over torqued when it was put on before. How do I fix this? Can I buy this bolt readily from the dealer? I need to bang it out but the exhaust heat shield is in the way so I'm having a bit of an issue. This is the bolt I broke. What do I do?? |
Drill it out and put a new nut and bolt one it. Mine are rusted and I'm going to have to do that to mine. I'll probably replace all 4 with stainless steel.

It's probably a 10mm anyway.

My only concern with putting in a random bolt is I think these are the kinds of bolts that have groves in the front that allow it to sit in place like a lug nut bolt. I wouldn't want to put another type of bolt and ruin the grooves. What do you think?
Thanks for the help! |
You could remove the other bolt, measure it and order / buy an identical bolt to replace the broken one.
It is possible that your local NAPA store will have the bolt that you need.... and hopefully the guys there will know exactly what bolt you need. http://www.napaonline.ca/ A few things you should make sure they know: Is the bolt metric / SAE Bolt strength Size Thread per inch / tread pitch shank length (if any) Coating etc... I'd recommend getting all 4 bolts replaced just for safety, but 1 bolt will probably fix your problems. Alternatively, your local CT / home depot may also have the bolt you need. Good luck |
Try Brafasco, not sure if they do automotive but everything else, their specialty is fastners. They are located around the GTA.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and thoughts.
That bolt is the WORST. I couldn't even get it off after heating the sucker up. I ended up drilling it and putting another bolt through. Sway bar is back on with a new end link. :) I really really want a lift now. Would have made my life so much easier. |
Ouch that sucks... Hope it all turned out well
