Questions about Baby Carriers in the 8, etc.
As some of you know, I'm going to be a dad soon. So with that, I was hoping that you might be able to help me out with this.
the Seat Saver.
Does it fit and work for the 8?

Does it fit in our back seat?
Strollers
I doubt it, but does any model fit in the trunk?
Rumours
I hear in the grapvine that there is a RX-8 babyseat for the car, is it ture?

I think that seat saver is awesome!! alot of ppl with MB's use like old blankets and stuff. also if it does not fit in the back seat, i'm sure you can trim the product to make it fit made out of high density foam.. regarding the baby seat borow a friends and see and same with the stroller

You should check with wsc... He brought a broshure over with custom RX-8 seats direct from Mazda...
If the trunk can take golf bags, strollers and other accessories shouldn't be a problem!

RE: the Seat Saver - I saw this in the TRU flyer and am definately going to check it out. I'm sure they would take it back if it didn't work. I currently have a booster seat with a very thick towel behind/underneath it. The seat saver should work better I think.
RE: Baby Carriers - The newborn carriers are rear facing so it may require having the front seat moved up a bit.....if you're a tall person then put the baby carrier behind the front passenger seat. When my son was in his baby carrier, it came with a base that stayed in the car and was always secured by the LATCH system. The carrier snapped in and out of the base which made for very quick entry/exits. (The infants are still strapped into the carrier itself so there's no need to worry about the shoulder straps, etc.)
RE: Strollers - The problem with the trunk is the actual opening.....the trunk itself is a good size, but most strollers won't fit through the opening. You can get a baby carrier system that comes with a very basic 'stroller' attachment that would fit in the trunk no problem. I found a link to a picture of the basic stroller that fits a baby carrier so you can see what I'm talking about:

I couldn't find this at the Toys R Us site...but I did buy something similar.
Most strollers are alot bulkier...this one is made for when you take the carrier out of the base and don't need trays, cup holders, etc. The one I had was even smaller and didn't have the storage underneath.
For the future - there is a booster seat that's black with red insert that goes nicely with the VR interior!

I've not heard rumors of an RX-8 baby-seat, but I would recommend trying to match your cars color scheme rather than settling for basic tan for your baby accessories. My two-year-old rides in a nice blue toddler seat in my Winning Blue 2004.
I bought two thick, black terrycloth bath towels at the Wal-Mart for $6 each and use those to protect the seat under the carseat. Protection is a must as the carseat will stretch, deform and, at worst, tear the seat on which you mount it (my two-year-old is #3 - I've seen this before). $20 is a good price for that mat if it's really thick enough and tough enough to protect your seat. When you switch to a front-facing toddler seat be sure the front edge of the seat is protected. The kids little feet will dangle right there and rub that edge for 1 or 2 years - doesn't seem like much, but one of my previous cars shows serious cumulative damage.
You can always get one of those real cheap 'umbrella' strollers when your kid gets bigger. They're not at all suitable for an infant, but they're really tiny. If you don't have a spare mounted you should be able to get almost any single stroller in there. We recently bought a Jeep stroller at the Toys R Us. It's a three wheeler, but the front wheel pivots. There is an enormous amount of storage underneath plus drink holders, saddle bags, sunglasses holder, etc, etc.

Kids here too. Boosters work but I would get towels to prop up the booster properly and level. You got to shop for thin modular/foldable baby items and pay a fe bucks more. Get the Cadiallac of strollers with all the gizmos and you'll have trouble getting it in that small trunk opening. If you have the spare tire, you are screwed as the stroller won't fit in the trunk. MAKE SURE WHATEVER CARSEAT YOU BUY IS FASTENED PROPERLY AND SECURELY. Read up on this first!!!!

Thanks for the advice and pointers fellas. 
TLor - funny how people who own a MB, end up using blankets to save their seats like the rest of us, hehe. I'm surprised that MB does have a MB seat saver with their logo on it.
Neo, I've asked my dealer about the seat, but no go there. I'll contact Mazda Canada for sure.

The Chad - I've seen that typr of stroller--funny how when you are expecting a baby, you look at every single stroller that you come across like looking at sports cars. My wife and I have been debating about what to buy. We bought a Graco quatto tour (is that what it was called? too many names lol) it was on sale, but will return it, cause she found a better pattern. I doubt that stroller would fit in the 8's opening, But for the first little while, the little one is going to be home, so that may be alright. Winter baby, heh.
Cool-Blue-Dad - I didn't even think about the leg rubbing and kicking..hmm, need to think about that too. Thanks for that pointer.

One more word in favor of towels - little kids shed crumbs and stuff, even if you don't feed them in the car. The terricloth holds the debris so it's easily brought out of the car to be shaken out or run through the washing machine. A foam pad my protect the seat, but if it's smooth it will let the crumbs all slide right off and into the seat-crack.
We homeschool, but I take my three daughters to their dance schools (yeah, plural) in the RX-8. Those are mini-van/SUV conventions with the occassional runty winter-beater. Boy do I love styling around in the RX-8 there. When someone makes a glib comment about the 'sports car' I say, "Hey, that's a responsible, 4-door family sedan out there. Check it out."
I hope you can handle your car making other people insecure.

Hobbes congrats on the baby. We just had one October 6th.
First of all if you want a stroller that fits in the trunk you will not have much to choose from. We looked at almost every model and the only one that fit was the Peg Perego Aria we bought it from Bonnytogs. Overpriced $199 for stroller then $229 for the carseat, but both fit easily in the 8. The only other option is a cheap frame that a carseat fits onto. Good luck.

I have a newborn on the way in Jan. But the wife's Mazda3 will be the main transport for the baby. But as for the 8, and strollers I don't think the larger ones will fit. We are picking up an "all in one" stroller/car seat/carrier, but we are also buying a "umbrella stroller" for those short trips and trips in the "8".
If you wanna chat things to get for the baby and stuff, PM me and I'll send you a link to our registry. Might give you some ideas as to some things you wouldn't think about.
We got a few of our friends to come along (that have kids) and help us with it.

Oh goodie. It looks like lots of people have RX-8s and little tykes and that they all get along nicely.
Some thoughts:
1. All child seats sold right now are LATCH compatible. They have to be. The RX-8 has all of the necessary hard points you need to make any new seat work.
2. Do not get a larger stroller than you absolutely need. If you don't jog with the kid, don't get a jogging stroller (you can't run with them until the kid is 6 months old, or so they say). Either that, or don't drive to get to your jogging destination.
3. There are tons of nice strollers that fold up thin and low. If Peg isn't your cup of tea, may I recommend the Zooper line? Lots of foldable options there, and great quality to boot.
4. Newborn rear-facing seats need 1" of clearance between the top of the seat and the seatback of the front seat. That means you won't have much legroom for the front passenger; the seat BEHIND the driver will have more legroom. What's worse, INFANT/TODDLER rear-facing seats come into play once your kid is more than 10 kg or 22 lbs. Those combination seats are HUGE - you will not have any room in the front passenger seat, period. Sure, you can turn them forward-facing, but that's when your kid is more than a year old. Some kids grow larger than 22 lbs in less than five months!
Because of the seat-size problem, our little guy isn't going anywhere in the RX-8 until he turns 1, which is sad, because Daddy gets to have so much fun Wankeling around town all by himself...

Hmm. You can Google for the Zooper site, and find the list of Canadian distributors (if it's still there). We went to Macklem's on Dundas, south of Bloor. Highly recommended, even if it's a little way's out.

My little ones fit well in the back seat and well...here too..!
BTW...I know I'm late to the party but 3 wheeled jogger is fine in the trunk....anything more is a struggle and a reason to break out the SUV!

YT1300 - Thanks. We're gonna check them out to see which models they have and take it from there. Though the Elite and Waltz seem to be the same to me. Know more when I seem them myself.
gerhardj - Great pics. Preparing the little one for the ride, very cool. A three wheel jogger can really fit in our trunks? Wow, never even crossed my mind that they could.
About the strollers, there's difference size wheels. Being that I live in Toronto that has all four seasons, all of which is either snow or sun, lol. Is it really better to get the huge **** wheels or are the 6" and 7" ones? We don't plan to walk the baby in snow, but never know.

You're welcome. One thing: Zooper recently canned a whole bunch of their nicer 'older' models, and replaced them with 'same-named' more expensive models. Just FYI. You'll have to take the wheels off of most 3-wheeled jogging strollers to fit it, if you look around, but the wheels should come off easily in most models.
Bigger wheels, in the case of a stroller, mean better ground clearance and better weather-handling. It's nuts to go out in the snow, but sometimes you have to. 5" wheels are a minimum; width is more important than height - the wider the tire, the better the handling/clearance (you want the stroller to go over things, not plow through the snow). Think slush.

Great advice and info, thanks again!
My wife and I picked up the Zopper Waltz, which seems to be good all around. Though still debating between that at Graco's Metrolite (I think that's the name. So many...too many to remember,lol). The bar in the middle of the basket of the Zooper is kind of the downside and the lack of a tray for the little one is another. Though probably won't have to use the tray, it would have been nice to have the option to use it or not. I'll let you guys know the finial result soon...well, up till the point we can still get cash back...so our decision is really pending, heh.

If it doesn't work do a search on the word Strolex. This is the car seat I've bought for the RX8 and it's served us very well so far (Baby's 5 months old). I get stopped so often by passersby when I open the back door and pull out the car seat. They're just amazed at the simplicity of it. With the simple pull of a handle the wheels come down and now the car seat's a stroller. Totally saves trunk space and will work until she weighs 40 lbs. It has allowed me to say no to the prospect of a minivan... I refuse!

Thanks Sharky. My wife found that stroller off Google. It looks really cool and pretty 007ish if you ask me, hehe. We wanted something a little more funcational, since we have a dog and will walk them both, er the dog we walk, the kid in the stroller, heh.
Mini, er, the M-word is something my wife is so against, it's no wonder why I love her so much, lol. I hate them too.
