Project RX-8 is underway.

Well we've decided to keep our RX-8 instead of leaving it stock and selling it. We just cant leave anything stock lol.

Anyways for those who dont know, heres what we have.

2004 RX-8 GT imported from Atlanta Georgia. We bought it as an insurance wreck as the front end was smashed bad. It still ran and drove straight, but the front end was demo'ed. After many thoughts of what we should do with the car, we finally decided to do something big and keep it as a shop car to promote the business.

RPM Motorsports has just recently teamed up with Fearless Customs and we are working together on this project to produce a show car with as much "go" as it has "show".

As for the "show" part of the car, we are leaving it entirely up to Jody at Fearless to desgin. Expect some crazy paint and airbrushing with some wild bodywork...possibly a one-off widebody kit

Now the "go" part of this project is our baby, which is what we specialize in
So since we are going for performace and horsepower, we ditched the Renisis. Only because our our power goal is far greater than the Renisis can handle.
We are going to be building a Cosmo 13B RE engine for the RX-8, big turbo, lots of internal modifications and some custom internal parts we are building right now.
Since this engine will be very high HP, we are ditching the stock 6spd trans and using a 3rd generation RX-7 tranny instead. Its stock for now, we'll see how it holds up to the power and if it doesn't, then no big deal...importers have them for under $500.
All of the interior is coming out and we are building a custom cage for it to accomodate the stock interior, since it will be put back in.

Heres a couple pics of what it looks like....this will probably take most of the winter to complete so I'll keep updating as we go along. Enjoy!

Oh and by the way...incase your wondering what we are doing with the Renisis and 6spd tranny....

We are going to turbo it with a Garett T04R and put it in my 1972 616...lots of fun!

Very cool projects, both of them. I think I'm more interested to see the 72 than anything.
Hopefully there is time this winter for them to work on my project too with all of this cool stuff on the go.
My rotors should be showing up for Joe this week. Just need to get the rest of the parts ordered and shipped to RPM before they spend all winter on these 2.

I can hardly wait. (Not to thread jack, but rotors are in transit, Pineapple Racing order shipped on Friday, and MazdaSpeed Motorsports and Racing Beat orders should be going in within the week.)

This is very exciting. Can't wait to see what kind of horsepower you will be able to pull from a Cosmo 13B RE engine. What is the difference between the RX7 13b and the Cosmo 13b?

Looking forwards to seeing this magnificent monster car of yours, come true.

Be sure to record the sound of the engine in all it's glory, many folks are going to want to hear the inspiration of your work!!

Cheers!

I hope it's a 3 rotor

Quote from MRC

IIRC the main differances are the size of the main intake ports are a lot larger (see pic) , the turbo's were smaller and the exhaust ports are smaller and have diffusers in them.
The inlet manifolds are different also.

Most of these changes were made to improve torque (the Cosmo is a big car) and to make the engine more refined and quieter ( it is meant to be a luxury car afterall)

The main difference between the Cosmo 13B and the RX-7 13B is the port size and intake runner shape. The Cosmo has similar ports to an FD RX-7 just a slight bit larger. The irons on the Cosmo block are also cast a little better and are stronger then the FD irons. Less likely to crack under high boost/detonation.

Turboeight, no three rotor....thats been done already lol.
We are aiming for 1000 wheel horse power with the 13B on the side ports. Like I said, lots of custom internal parts are going into the making of this. So it wont be your ordinary 13B

The '72 616 turbo Renisis will be a bit more modest, aiming for around 450 whp as it will be my daily driver in the summer.

this is great stuff, RPM. Deff going to keep an eye on this. Those are some pretty lofty power goals. Good luck and keep us updated!
