Powertrain Warranty Question

Quick question for you boys.

I had my oil pan gasket replaced in the summer which I was charged for. See below to me it sounds like it is supposed to be covered? Any thoughts?

From Mazda's site:
All Mazda vehicles except B-Series and 2001 to 2006 Tribute.

Warranty Period
The warranty period starts upon expiration of the New Vehicle 36 month/80,000 km Limited Warranty and ends at 60 months from the earlier date of either retail delivery or first use of the Mazda Vehicle, or at the time the Mazda Vehicle has been driven 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Components Covered
Rotary Engine (for RX-8) Rotor Housings, Eccentric Shaft, Side Housings, Stationary Gears, Rotors, Main Bearings, Tension Bolts, Intake Manifold, Front Cover, Flywheel, Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Oil Pump Chain, Metering Oil Pump, Engine Mounts, Gaskets and Seals.
The following Rotary Engine components are covered for 96 months or 160,000 km: Rotor Housing and all internal lubricated parts, oil pan, oil pump, water pump and gaskets, seals and gaskets.

**update**

The oil pan gasket is covered US and Canada!! Cheers!

Dude, THANKS for this!

I have a leaking oil pan gasket. I am getting use to the smell of buringing oil everytime I get off the highway.

Maybe Al can help us clear up if this is covered or not.

NP would love to know as well. Might just make another call to Mazda US since mine is US. After dealing with Ajax mazda I'm double checking everything they have done to my car, since I don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

Well talked to Mazda US, and YES it should be covered if there is a defect. They couldn't explain what 'defect' exactly meant and it was up to the dealership to make the call.

It's amazing how much we love our 8's and put up with the fuss. It seems that every time someone asks me how my car is (I get it a lot from my buddy who just bought a 135i), I'm telling them it's fugged! Why cant they ask me when she's purring like a content panther?

Yup luv'em!!! But starting to get a bit frustrated!!

I called the dealership about the warranty coverage, and of course since it's on the Canadian site and not on the US site causing more of a headache. But Geoff (nice guy) is calling Mazda US for me to find out. The only difference from US and CAN warranty is km vs miles, but won't take my word for it even tho I just talked to Mazda US. lol!! Sounding like my CAT replacement all over again.

Thief, the dealership description of what your seeing and feeling is "loose nut behind the wheel"

ps. As dealers the problem with US cars is getting paid for the repair! We dont have any problem doing warranty work, the problem is sometimes getting paid! (lol)

I can completely understand that Al, but frusterated at the point I have to keep pointing things out to them and then getting arguments about whether things are covered or not instead of just finding out for the customer. If they come back agreeing it is covered (as it seems it should be) this will be the 2nd time now I had to do the leg work and saving myself over $3000+ which is unacceptable almost to the point I have contemplated reporting them to the better business bureau.

For us its like fighting with insurance companies, neither one will ever totally commit. Usually when the customer raises enough stink between Canada and the US a decision is finally made and in the mean time we come out looking like idiots. Dealing with warranty is usually very straight forward, that is the only exception (lol)

So do you think I'd be able to come by to see if I have a leaky oil pan gasket? I think I should get it fixed soon-ish.

LOL...and who has done that before. I ended up changing insurance companies after my car was stolen cause they tried to screw me over. Ya but I hate raising stink, I'm tired of raising stink. Any dealership should know what is and what is not covered under warranty for all their cars US or Canadian. I find it astounding they don't! I understand it being hard to deal with Mazda US for you guys, but it shouldn't be and that's a Mazda problem as a whole, not an individual dealership which will take the flack for it.

If Mike's 8 s Canadian (which I think it is) and it is leaking/needs replacing it should be covered under the 160,000k extended engine warranty CORRECT?

It's too bad that my favourite Integra owner refuses to acknowledge Rotaryism.

You had an integra too! What was it? I had a silver '96 GSR it got stolen Oct '07 and then got my 8. They are really reliable cars tho, at least mine was.

They are good peeps but didn't seem like a lot of problem solving at that forum.

Yeah on that forum everyoen kinda had their own opinion, so you wouldn't know whos word to trust. But here, we got some really smart and strong followers of rotaryism... lets spread the word..=D
