Thumbs up No hassle discounted prices in Canada - research results

I did an Internet search and I followed it up with exchanges of e-mail.

There are at least two ways to receive a no hassle below MSRP quote in Canada.

One is to go to http://www.cars4u.com. They are a discount dealer and leasing company. For a quote send an e-mail to Mike Mazgay: MMazgay@cars4u.com. He has been very helpful and accomodating in reaching a deal with a good discount.

The second way is to become a member of the Automobile Protection Association http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?lang=english, a membership based non-profit association dedicated to promoting consumer interests in the marketplace. They do have contacts for the Mazda RX-8 dealers in Canada. This means that they work with dealers to give you a no hassle discounted price or you can take that price to your dealer to match.

With either choice you do not have to pay MSRP in Canada any more.

I hope that this helps. With a little bit of time it is possible to find good answers on the Internet. Please post here if you complete a deal with a satisfactory discount or if you find other links with confirmed discounts.

Discounts on this car will happen without going and paying for this service. For the amount of time and effort with these other groups you should be able to sit down with your dealer. Providing the dealer has ground stock, it's obviously better for the dealer for the car to be burning gas rather than sitting and being charged interest. Remember the supply and demand theory the more people want something the more they are willing to pay for it. This is the way with anything toasters, clothes, TV's, etc. some people must have the newest thing going and don't mind paying for it.
Considering the equipment you get in the car the price is really a bargain, if you compare it's competitors in the marketplace they are all more expensive for either the same equipment or even less.
Don't go through the hassle with these agencies I as a dealer deal with the APA and you could conceivably get the same deal they offer if you were to walk in treat us fair and do a deal on a stock unit RX-8.

My theory on MSRP is as follows.

Do your reasearch first. Know what a car costs. Consumer reports, e-bay, private sales, etc.

Decide what you can afford or maybe more correctly what you are willing to pay. Then base an offer accordingly. If the dealer tells you, no way, try a counter offer. If you feel your price is fair and a counter offer is not wise, take it to another dealer, leaving the first dealer 24 hours to meet your terms.

If the next dealer turns you down, go to a third, again leaving the 24 hour option behind. If you are rejected again, maybe your offers are too low. Which means you did not do your research properly.

Just remember, cars in short supply or high demand will be almost non negotiable. A dealer is in business to make money, not loose it. If there is a waiting list for a car, you will not get a rock bottom or below MSRP price.

If the vehicle is on its way out, like the Protege and Protege 5, then there is lots of room to bargain. Especially when there are 20 of them sitting on a lot.

1. Research

2. Make reasonable offer in accordance with research

3. You are happy consumer

good luck shopping

I am surprised about the two previous responses. We all agree that the RX-8 is a great car, but this doe not mean that we have to pay MSRP when there are other options in the marketplace.

Of course you can negotiate with your local dealer but i found out that Mike at cars4you quoted me a very large no hassle discount, and I mean large.

Oh come on, what's the secret? Quit *****-footing around and just tell us the actual number?!!

Last year, with extremely limited supply and big demand, there were no discounts on RX-8s in Canada. I agree, though, that there should be some dealing available this year.

Regards,
Gordon

Mike told me not to advertise it. However, you can contact him directly.

Wink

I actually contacted Mike at cars4u before I decided to buy my 8 in Edmonton. They're mostly a leasing company so selling a car out right is not their forte (so he tells me). Anyway, he looked into this issue for me for a couple of days and he came back that by the time he ships the car to me in Calgary, I'd be paying for essentially the same thing as if I had purchased the vehicle locally. He then advised me that the deal I got for my car (which is $46,000 GST included for a GT + moonroof + accessories such as front mud guards, side deflectors, rear underdeflectors, spoiler, front air dam, rock guard and window tinting) is a good deal.

Cheers.

Try dealfinder.ca, they cover all provinces . . .

Beware though of the above price, it's too good to be true unless you live in Alberta and don't have to pay PST. I would guess that there are close to $3K worth of accessories there beyond GT and moonroof. I paid the Ontario government a similar amount of money for the pleasure of not accepting those accessories :-(

I paid Dealfinder to find a car for me, for roughly $150 it saved me a lot of time and the annoyance of dealing with car salesmen and their annoying silly games. It would also be very easy to leave $150 on the table in any car deal if you are not a top notch negotiator, have dealer costing details, a good handle on the market and zero emotions. Some of the RX-8s are in short supply still and it was hard to find a red GT 6spd in particular. I gave a large search area and had two options, stock in Toronto or a couple month wait for one ordered in Ottawa. The one in Toronto was cheaper by enough to pay for a flight down to pick it up. You won't get a huge discount on the cars and some dealers still want MSRP but you can get a reasonable discount under the right circumstances. Supply is still a bit tight so the deal I got a month ago when it was more winter like may or may not be achievable now. Dealfinder was able to do much much better on a Civic for a friend, it's all about supply and demand. There are no dealer invoice prices and over supply like in the States, Canada is one of Mazda's biggest markets. Comparing prices and sales between the countries is a bit of an apples and oranges thing, the markets are quite different.

and GOD I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread..... "If you're gonna buy something, check for the cheapest price, and if you didn't check the price, then don't check AFTER you buy something"

it was..... about 41,000 before taxes and stuff I believe
so yea it was MSRP+docs/pdi+gst+pst to get 48k
however, they gave me a sorta discount by give me 3000 bucks more for my trade in (a '96 disco) since when I went to Infiniti about the G35c, they only offered me 7500 for my truck when mazda offered me 10,500..... but thank god for that or I'll be posting on an infiniti forum :p
