Hey guys, so i just bought a 2004 rx8 with 80,000kms on it 2 days ago. ive only had it for 3 days now and ive noticed it has extremely bad gas mileage. Ive read a lot of posts on here that people are getting around 320-400 kms on a full tank, but ive already driven 67 kms and the tank is half empty :S im very concerned about this because ive been driving it really easy, and i bought it from a mazda dealer which said the car was in perfect condition :S . Is there anything you guys can think of that i should look into?

please dont tell me i should have researched the rx8 more before i bought it because i did, but right now the mileage ive been getting is absolutely terrible .

Take it back to the dealership and have them test the plugs/coils/CAT converter/compression.

Or, take it to a mechanic you can trust for a second opinion.

 

^^^^^Do that, is yours an Automatic or Standard? typically the first half goes faster, which i notice on mine. i think i get about 100kms out of the first quarter.

 

mine is standard. update: i only got 200 kms out of that tank until the light came on, and im on my 2nd tank now and ive gotten 280 kms using 3/4. does that seem about right?

 

i would change sparks/coils/ and do a decarb

 

yeah i changed the spark plugs and the coils 2 weeks ago. i dont think it made that much of a difference . how much do you usually get when you light comes on?

 

when the light comes on im close to 360kms. Right now I believe im at half tank and Im at 150kms. Just took the car out of storage on Sunday.
