new guy here

Hey all, long time lerker, first time RX8 owner. Im so excited, picking it up saturday. its a 2004 GS in red. my dad and i have been slowly working on an 84 rx7 GSLSE over the years, so im a rotary fanatic. I always loved the 8s, and just recently i started my apprenticeship back up at the local mazda dealership, so ive been driving a few and i fell in love completely. I knew i had to have one, so i did the math, and what do you know, its in my price range, so here i am. anyways, when i get it, ill be posting pictures for sure. hope to learn from all the expertese here, and maybe i can contribute eventually, working at a mazda dealer and all...

thanks all for the warm welcome. i definitly will be coming out to the meets...i dont know about the group hug thing though....lol.

as for dressing up the my new addiction...welll, i think we'll just keep er stock...ish...for now. Just need some winter tires mainly, and i was looking at the 09 R3 in our showroom, and i love the tail lights...if they fit, id be looking at fitting some of those to my 04 gs for sure. other than that, i think the car looks perfect and it handles and goes good enough, for now. haha.

I was hoping to go on that fall tour thing, but it seems i have other obligations that day. how often and where are the GTA meets held?

The 09 taillights do not fit on the 04-08 RX-8... someone has attempted already on the forum with pictures. It sticks out (not flush). Search for it.

Typically the GTA meets are divided between the EAST and the WEST. The Northerners are neutral and show up to either as long as we pick locations somewhere midpoint.

Meets are held often, just committment is hard. The West end was strong for meets. then the East Enders started buying 8s, and more meets held here now.

Meets are held more often in Summer, where both East and West will come out too.

West however tends to show up more to the Winter meets.

Theres the Forks of the Credit cruise that is being arranged that you could come out too.

Another Red 8, when is that Phantom Blue gonna show up, along with the Nordic Green, Black Cherry, Copper Red and Metro Gray.

oh my! this is getting out of hand. lol.

Its strange, my first car was a geo metro, then i got into its twin, suzuki swift GT (which has a 1.3L twin cam 4 cyl, engine code is G13B coincidently) As soon as i got that swift, i found a large community of swift enthusiasts, it was in the winter, but i requested a meet and like 20 people showed up in the middle of one of the worst storms we had that winter. it was awesome. Ive been to every meet since, and i still attend, made some really good friends through that club, hope to do the same here. Boy will the swift guys be surprised when i show up in an RX8, lol. coming from guelph, its always kind of a long haul to GTA meets, but i dont mind as long as others will show up. Ill keep my eyes peeled for meet info for sure now.

and too bad about the tail lights, thats the only part of my RX8 i dont care for...they are so...busy...or something.

You'll probably never see 20 RX-8s getting together unless it's some kind of huge track day, or RPM meet. But there are a few east-end regulars who'll usually be up for a meet. The community is small, but we all do love our cars

And you will definitely love yours too. Welcome to the Rotary Obsession!

so, as promised, here are a few pics. i love this thing so much, i think i wanna sleep in it tonight. lol. if it wasnt so cold out, maybe i would have. Oh, and sorry about the quality, i know some people hate it when people post cellphone pics...but i'd rather spend time driving it, and spend money putting gas in the tank than on a camera so this should suffice for now.

I already had the back end step out on me a little bit by accident, im not used to rear wheel drive yet. i mean, ive driven them before but i dont beat on customers cars so...thats why i was in such a rush to get the car before winter and get used to it instead of picking one up and learnign everything in the white stuff. Anyways, im gonna refuel, both me and the car and go out for another tour.

In 2009 spring, I will possibly organize a show and shine session somewhere central that has a huge coin-op car wash perhaps.

Hope you can come out for that one.

no. ive been enjoying a few little twisty back roads and driving my family members around anwhere between guelph and burlington....but i dont think that was me...i would have noticed a yellow 8. spotted a white 8 on the 401 just past highway 6 though.

PS. i LOVE the BEEP! lol. I also hate it though, cause it means you cant have anymore fun in that gear. lol.

No ****! My first new car (I was 21) was an '89 Swift GT, back before the hatch craze caught on...had a supertrap exhaust on that thing, fat tires...
That thing was <1800 pounds of high reving fun. Gave it to my dad and he eventually sold it still running with over 260kms on it. Loved that car, shoulda kept it!

Welcome.
