My RX8 is sick ??!

I didn't start my RX8 for about 3 or 4 days, this afternoon I wanted to go for a little ride but the car never wanted to start !!!!
I drove my RX8 all winter long without any trouble, now by a beautiful day and without any warning what so EVER ...The car didn't start at all !!!
That's how it left home this afternoon....on a towing truck !
P.S And it isn't the battery ...So don't ask ....

Sorry to hear that right after you just got clears. I'm sure you tried the emergency start and all with no luck. Didn't by chance started it and then turned it off, did you?

Hope it works out for you.

I guess BlueFrenzy is right again...I did start it and move it a few feet and then turned it off, I really didn't think it would effect the engine that bad ??
Hope to hear from my dealer by tomorrow, they were already talking about changing a part of my starter..IE like a recall on it or something like that ?
I am very busy at work and Off work too... I have no time to drive it :o

That's great to hear that your 8 is ok. I guess from now on you'll be revving to 3000 before shutting it down!

What do you think went wrong? Did you even read the manual and remember what it said? They say to warm the car up for a reason, and you now know first hand just what the reason is. Bet you wont do that again.

Keep an eye on your cat, they can go bad after a flood.

When you flood the car, where do you think a lot of the excess fuel goes? Into the catalytic converter, my local dealer has had to replace several and they all had been flooded at some point.

Not sure exactly what happens but it bascially falls apart, probably from the heat, and then clogs up the exhaust. This kind of restriction will degrade performance.

Danielson,

Sucks to hear... But it sounds like you got hit by the "not warmed up" bug... What flash version are you running??

I don't see any RX-8's having this type of problem around my area... and I personally have to move my 7 a few feet up and down the driveway... still fires up without a problem... I don't see why the 8 will be any different...

I could always ask MyRxBad about his....

And yes, eventually the cats will go bad on a rotary... faster than a piston counterpart... that's just a part of life... letting the exhaust flow freely should increase output... but not by a whole lot...

Don't worry Danielson... next time you'll know what to do...

Lates,

Thanks for the info sea ray, I will see into it... I learn my lesson.
My Baby run with the new N flash, just did it this winter (was supposed to help the car to start easier ), which I never had any trouble anyway... Hope this won't affect in any way the performance of my RX8

Danielsan; Real sorry to hear that your 8 had a rough day. Glad all is well!! Hope it might make you feel any better to know that we've flooded the RX7 many times. The 7 actually has a kill switch to clear the fuel. She still runs great.
:D As a matter of fact there are several pictures of our beloved RX7 leading the pack it in Belleville :D

Yeah after a flood, if brought to the dealer, they have to do a road test to check the cat via the on board computer (after the road test at certain rpm for certain time) to see if it's still in spec. The cat "gone bad" doesn't mean that it's not any good/working anymore, it's just not up to the 2004 specs they built it to and now with the tougher regulations on new cars, the cat has to last for 7 years or 120k (under warrenty), so....

I'm surprized she flooded out on you w/the "N" flash, but a rotary is a rotary and she doesn't like the cold. I just got the "N" flash yesterday, but I never had a problem w/cold starting the car (but it still isn't my normal practice to do so.)

When I first got my 8 I didn't realize it was down and over for reverse. I stalled her twice cause I was in 6th. Real cold morning at 7am! I thought I was toast. But she fired right back up..both times. Guess I was just lucky.
Tricia (wife of quinte, mom of Quick) has flooded her but she got her started by pressing the peddle to the metal. We explained that you never touch the gas when starting. No problems since. :D

Update

Well, I got my RX8 back this morning, they changed all 4 spark plugs with the new one's, 2 x different kinds (that's new to improve combustion) everyone should get this done on their car and also I have a new starter coming my way (faster one) this is a improvement by Mazda Canada, unfortunaly they are back order
and Yes they also changed the oil but not the filter ??
I raised my hat to the dealer at Belleville for the fast service, they also worked on my car after the business hour for one hour and half...
THANK EVERYONE FOR CARING FOR ME...WE ARE ALL FAMILY

any time you want to "on-off" the car give it a good rev to atleast 4-5K and shut it off.. when the engine is cold...on the other hand when the car is warmed up just rev to 3k..i always rev it to 3k whenever shutting the engine off after a drive..peace of mind.
