Nobody's going??? I'd rather be on the track than relaxing up in a cottage... but that's me...

Neo 06-27-2007 07:06 PM

I would go... but I work on Monday... :(

Besides, the weather calls for rain... ;)

Rotator 06-28-2007 01:50 PM

Tempting.
My tires have been replaced, so I really don't have many excuses.

ROCKSTAR RX8 06-28-2007 02:06 PM

It's raining???? Oh well... I'm setting up the car for Monday already... might as well just go, rain or shine!! lol

mrobert55 06-28-2007 02:46 PM

Too bad I'm already going to the Champ Car event for Mazda USA for this WK....
I think I will be exaust after that WK....and they is also a time Attack day on sunday right after the champ car race in st-eustache!....My car will need a brake..lol

Rotator 06-28-2007 02:50 PM

Neo,

Monday is many days away.
They can't even get Today's weather forecast correct, and you plan your days around a 7 day forecast?
:banghead:

I know - you are just afraid at being shown up by an underpowered RX-8 with rockstar decals.

It's ok. really - we understand.

Work? Really? I have to "work" too. :)

Neo 06-28-2007 03:23 PM

Rotator,

I agree... these forecasters are getting paid too much and not giving an accurate reading on the weather. Which is why I end up looking at the weather radar myself and make a judgment call.
In their defense it did rain last night. Got to the car this morning all dirty from the water spots that dried up.

An RX-8 keeping up with an FD?! Come on now... who are you kidding?? LOL!! ;)

Yeah, unfortunately the company I work for caters to U.S. customers as well as Canadians. So unfortunately I have a regular work day on Monday... :(

Rotator 06-28-2007 03:59 PM

Neo,

Feel for you about Canada Day.
Buddy works for IBM - services US customers - so he gets all the US holidays.

Your FD vs. Rockstar's RX-8? He is running Toyo RA1's.
Mosport you may have an advantage due to the high speed, but smaller tracks, I think I'd have to give the edge to Rockstar. That and his car looks cooler!

Who am I kidding - the FD properly set-up should destroy the 8 :naughty:

It is interesting watching all the best motoring vids how close various cars are.

I'd be surprised if you could get your FD around Mosport close to what the Koni Challenge guys are doing with about 2/3 the HP - 1:32 - 1:35 range.

I think the key really goes to the suspension setup and how big your balls are with a non-race car, or a car without a cage, or a car that you hope to drive home in.

Anyone can be a hero in a rental car - different story when you have to pay to fix your screwup.

Now if I can only find a spare $500 to have fun on Monday.

Neo 06-28-2007 04:33 PM

Yeah, I'm kinda screwed when it comes to work. I basically get lieu days I can take off anytime I want. But I can never get the holidays everyone else gets.

I remember seeing a small vid of an 8 on the track at the same time a Spirit R was on. Spirit R blew by the 8 like it was standing still. It kept pulling away until it encountered traffic. But once he dealt with traffic, the Spirit R just pulled away.

The 8 is a good car. With the right suspension setup it can lap really quick. In short tracks it'll be difficult to pull away.

I would never push the car to lap Mosport at 1:32 let alone 1:40.
It's my only ride! It got me to the track and it has to get me back home in one piece. So no, I would never push it that hard on the track. I like my car too much! :)

If I had money to blow I would definitely look into getting a track-only car. But alas... :(

ROCKSTAR RX8 06-30-2007 08:24 AM

hahaha how am I getting involved in all the convos here??? LOL

My company was gonna be open on Monday, but I think someone looked into labour board and found out that we HAVE TO close on Monday.. lucky for me...

I just got the RB test-pipe and Race Flush... really wanny try it out on Mosport and see how much diff it'll make...

ANyways I thought we were talking about track days here how did we get into talking about holidays....

Rotator 06-30-2007 12:13 PM

Just faxed in my registration - Monday weather for what its worth - Sunny and 20!:)

ROCKSTAR RX8 06-30-2007 01:53 PM

It's sad that one of the Advanced group driver totaled her car over-correcting at corner 3. Lucky thing is that she only broker her arm...

Neo 07-03-2007 10:15 AM

You know the driver of the FD?? Never seen that car before...

Man, I wish I could have had the day off... I would have gone up to the track and take some pics.

Sucks to hear about the Porsche driver. She must have hit the wall hard to break her arm! :(

The hard-to-come-by 911 GT3 RS made an appearance... Nice!

ROCKSTAR RX8 07-03-2007 11:49 AM

YUP!!! The GT3 RS came from Montreal, some hard-core Porsche Club racer...

The FD is owned by O'Brian Motorsport, I think they are just doing some testing on the car before running the Ontario Touring Car Championship races.

qtwre 07-03-2007 12:25 PM

Geez, that definitely does not look like a novice friendly event. That rx7 spun out and a porsche crashed? People are driving too hard.

hahaha.. well the FD and the S2000 behind it are both in Ontario Touring Car Championship races and I guess they were testing out their lap time that's why the FD spun out at corner 10...

And at any lapping day crush does happen if the driver isn't too careful.. and trust me if you are driving stupid you'll actually get pulled off the track and not allowed to come back at KENSAI's events... It is very well organized!

I'll second the organized part.
Corner Workers, Spotters, and Fire Extinguishers placed around the track everywhere.

Average lap speeds are around 120-130kph, so it ain't a slow track.

Marshals would not tolerate any misconduct.

$300 gives you a chance to run 5-6 sessions around a really nice track. Each session is about 20 minutes long and you cover around 45-65km depending on the session and how fast you are.

So $300 gets you at least 200-250km of balls out - fast as you dare - driving in as safe a controlled environment as you could hope for, for the price at least.

We were reminded on several occasions that crashing at Mosport is NOT something that you want to do. 90% of the cars there were street cars, not purpsoly built track cars that don't fare well for both machinery and occupants when punted into a wall at 140kph.

I had a blast as well. There were a total of 4 8's that made it out. Should have been more.

It was my first time there, so I did the $175 course and would quickly say - money well spent! Aaron did a great job with the resources available.
I too had trepidation about the speed of the track and the limits of a stock car. Having the instruction from the beginning helped immensely - not only to show the correct lines and point out potential dangers, but also to ensure that you don't start off with any bad habits.

If you had any inclination to go to an event but were unsure about it, I'd say start with the Mosport DDT sessions, then give this a try. Take the course, and go on Kensai's day. They really do a great job. Kudos to Alan and his team for the day.

Weather was perfect, and the there were plenty of 9K beeps to be had by all.

Rockstar even added a flame thrower to the mix!

Some interesting numbers?
Top Back Straight Speed - RX-8 around 180-190kph, GT3 245-255kph.

Mosport is actually very gentle on tires and brakes. There are really only a couple places where you have to shift, and only two spots with any significant amount of braking - into 5a, and 8. You could almost leave the car in 4th and not hurt lap times much at all.

Would I do it again?
Hell yeah!

Cool Cars to be seen as well
GT3 RS
Renault Leguna Touring Car
List goes on...

The FD was built by Mazdees this winter, but you may not like it because it is NON-TURBO.It has a peripheral port engine with Renesis rotors and e-shaft.I am curious to know how well it ran.

Thanks for the updates guys!

I thought it might be Mazdee's car. I've heard they've been working on an FD race car.
Great to see it on the track!

I need to scrape together more cash!!
