"Minor Glitches" in Canadian RX-8 release

My dealer in St. John's (Penney Mazda) explained the reason for the long delay in port in Vancouver was due to the discovery of "2 minor glitches" with the vehicles.

Obviously, Mazda Canada wouldn't share any details. Anyone have any inside info to share?

I read somewhere else on here that it had something to do with emissions certification or something, but I've not heard anything official.

Hey Redshift - has Pooch350Z added your VIN to his query? Hard to believe a 7-day rail transit from BC to NS as it says on the CN web page he accessed....

Yeah, my car is on his list and confirmed to be on that train.
7 days seems tight, but do-able I suppose.
A friend of mines father is an engineer for CN, and he was saying when they pick a load of cars up in Toronto, they are in Halifax in 2 days.

Besides, if a buddy of mine can ride a motorcycle from Vancouver to Halifax in 58 hours (a world record BTW) then I hope CN can get a train to cover the same distance in 7 days.

I'm dying to see my VIN on a tracking list ... will have to wait for Pooch to log in I suppose.....

I'll be receiving my Titanium GT in Dartmouth (purchased in St. John's) as soon as they're released. Maybe I'll see you at the rail yard.

Absolutely! Hope to see you there. Be nice to meet somebody else sick enough to buy a car they haven't even driven yet... (this is actually the 2nd time I've done that.)
Although, at least I've seen a couple RX-8s in person...

I'll hopefully be there too.

Barry, are you flying over, or taking the ferry?

Fly over, ferry back - will be tough to honor the 7000rpm limit during break-in on my way home .....

Jasper - which is your car? Have you confirmed it is on the same train as mine and Redshift's?

Yep, mine is on the same train (00839); as is the other one for the local dealership.

One word of caution. I was at lunch with someone form Halifax (any guesses Redshift? ) and found out that the intersection of the 102 and 104 are currently under construction, of the ripping up and repaving kind, so it may not be the most new car friendly.

I think I'll go look at alternate routes....

It's been a long week.. I'm drawing a blank... which one is the 104? Where abouts do they meet? I'm sure we can figure you out a scenic route to take from there.

If you guys are driving your cars home from there, how are you doing the PDI? You driving it to Newfoundland with the packing material on it?

To get back to your question. Mazda Canada told me that the delay is due to port installations, i.e. accessories, which also had to await delivery from suppliers in the US.

I'll be the first to call BS on that excuse - what port accessories? The cars were in port before Mazda Canada even published the accessories catalog, and none of the dealers have been contacting any of the buyers to ask what accessories they might want installed at port...

Regards,
Gordon

That does seem a bit fishy. I wonder if Mazda Canada has a rebuttal to that point.

Getting back off topic... :D

The 104 is at the Truro end of the 102, running between NB and Cape Breton. And if I have to, I'll drive it back to the dealership wrapped in bubblewrap! I was talking to the dealership today. They'd prefer that it be trucked up, but if it doesn't arrive until wednesday, and I want it for friday, I may need to go get it, depending on when a truck is coming to New Glasgow.

Canada - the "port accessories" line has to be BS, none of us had ordered any accessories at that point because they didn't exist yet...

Redshift - Steele Mazda is doing the PDI on behalf of my NF dealer, I'm flying to NS with NF plates in my bag

Jasper - we'll need to go into Truro off the 102 and take the old Pictou Rd. up to the 104.

Ahhh.. ok, I'm with you. I had the old 5PM Friday brain-shutdown going on.

I'm actually getting my air dam and deflectors from Mills in Truro, so I'll be heading that way too. I'll be taking the Waverly Road out of Dartmouth and taking the back highway most of the way through to Truro. But, once you get to Truro... hmm.. you could take the Bible Hill exit, go down a little ways and take the back road all the way up through River John. Not the fastest way home, but who cares?

Went that way to my Aunt's place last summer, and the road was pretty good.

Ahh, I figured it would be Steele. Nice of them. But, that's my dealership, so my car better get done first! :D

Care to put a wager on it?

Waverley Rd. would be a blast ... maybe I'll take that route as well, at least for a while - 4-lanes of wide open black-top is too appealing to pass up.
