But not that much of a difference I guess. Maybe MT is more efficient, though I would have thought that to be counter-intuitive!?!? |
The last time I filled up it was around 405km. (52.166L @ 106.5c/L) $55.56 I guess it depends on how much hwy driving I do. That last reading was 50/50. I'm trying it again. Record your's at your next fill up.
Someone else on here wrote me and she only got about 300km on a full tank; city driving, BC.

I drive the same as daddyG, about 80% Highway. I last filled up 53L of Esso Premium, having gone 480km. I regularily average about 10.5 -11.5L per 100km.
I have 91,000km an 6spd manual. Juergen |
I yeild around 420km/tank at dipping a littler bit below the "E"
And sunoco, I also believe the 94 burns alot faster the 91 Shell's.. thats you you get tha kind of mileage, and also, auto has a big effect. |
I got approx 400km.. all city driving. Shell V-Power 91, first fill up only :)

You will find with SUnoco 94 your mileage is always worse than with the 91 of other stations. This is because Sunoco has 10% ethanol, which is used to increas octane. The disadvantage of this is ethanol requires a richer air/fuel ratio than regular gasoline. About 15% richer. So this affects your mileage.
|
at the 3/4 mark I get about 300 kms with almost all city driving (like 95%).
|
About 380 mostly non-highway driving before my fuel light comes on - about 54 litres to refill. It kinda sucks, but my wife's new small SUV - a Grand Vitara JLXL - is worse.

doesnt your car have the padel shift? i don't really know about RX8 AT but i know the new AT model for most cars save way more gas than manual does. Once i was at NIssan dealer, i had seen the new nissan altima eats only 9.8L/100km with 3.5L(or3.0L i forgot)!
k, my full tank gas got 435 km once, but about 400 was from Highway....91 oct |

That could be why mine is so low...I fill up at Sunoco 94. I'll try 91 and see the difference.
shell v power 91 is way better mileage vs sunoco's 94, but then i should be running 94 with boost, Lessha, you could get away with 91!, much cheaper too! |
I believe you because my second reading was with a different gas station and I got 405km/tank, (52.166L @ 106.5c/L) $55.56
I am on my third reading will list the results soon.

Give Me A Break ..
You buy a nice car and you want to nickel and dime the gas milage ???
Let me tell you this story when I bought my AT back in 2004. I said what !! when they told me I had to pay 10 cents a litre more for an 8. Then I did the math. 50 litres a week = $ 5.00. 50 weeks a year = 50 x $5.00 = $250 a year. As a good Italian Boy ( not me ) would say... Forget About It !! Enjoy the Car .... Even though you have to drive it in Hamilton .... |
That's it people! Mic has spoken!!

This thread is not about saving $$ it's about MILEAGE... I don't care about saving $$ after what I spent for this baby...
|
I don't drive my car very hard typically... For the most part its hwy driving at 120kmh in 6th gear (to and from work)
From full to Red-Light last time I got around 315km... That is pathetic... I should probably have something looked at, correct? Like, a plugged cat or something? I don't know... |
I've noticed an increase in mileage since i have strictly been using 91 octance instead of 94. I just took a trip to toronto from kingston and got 508km on a full tank.....light was on for about 5 minutes before I filled up. Cost me 58 dollars to fill.......believe gas was 101xx for 91 octane. Usually in the city I average about 320 -340/ tanks......higway about 440+. From what I can see everyone seems to get slighlty different results:dunno:
ps- I should add that this last trip was taken after I had installed my sr motorsports high flo cat.....there was a slight increase in mileage- about 30-40km per tank from what I can notice. |
How does it sound with the cat? Do you have a catback as well? If the sound you have before was a 5 (1-10), how loud is it now?
|
I like it A LOT.....if we were rating a stock rx8 at a 5....then with the high flo cat I would say its an 7.......this is all subjective of course..........if you want I can take a short vid and send it to you via pm........just let me know. I dont have a cat back.......yet. more concerned with suspension stuff...the stock cat back is pretty decent as you dont get much gains from aftermarket exhausts.
|
No thanks, I don't need a video. You can't really tell how loud something is from a video. I ask because I've been casually considering a high flow cat but I really don't want my car any louder than it already is.
|
it is definately louder when you accelerate hard.....but very minor if accelerating normally. It basically makes the car have a deep tone to it. but it is much louder when accelerating hard at high rpm's. cruising you can notice a slight difference.
|
Our's is also loud with the CAI...

My theard came first :) Doesn't really matter just nice to compair...
Will do another reading now that I'm over 10, 000km and see if it is any better. |

ChristInBen you will never get Mazda to fix your car in a million years. Gas mileage depends on so many different factors that to believe that someone who says they drive 60/40 like you do gets better mileage because something is wrong with your car is RIDICULOUS. Even doing comparable types of driving doesn't account for Throttle position, load, corners, hills, wind, tire pressure, traffic, stoplights, and the myriad of other factors that can affect mileage.
I have the scanguage so I can see instant mileage and trip mileage. When I go from 404 to Bronte road using hte 407 I get 11.9 going to Bronte Rd, and 11.4 coming back to the 404. This usually has to do with the fact that it is slightly downhill most of the way from Oakville. Just accept your mileage for what it is. If you really want to save gas get a jetta diesel. |

Yeah I guess if you have a heavy foot then you will have lower mileage...
Unlike some people I know...:rollingla: 500km...damn grannies...Hi Bret... :) |
Sunoco Gas (Approx. 12, 4)
91 Oc. = 1.201 ($/L) Liters = 51.310 @ $61.62 [From empty to full] 397.4km Mostly hwy driving. |
I find Sunoco in mileage independent of the octane. I always seem to get better with Shell, always. Sunoco just burns so much faster.
|
I think everyone that posts in these threads needs a Scangauge, way too much speculation and interpretations and bias. I'm looking at getting one, but I do want the Cobb, and pretty sure I'm going to get annoyed with playing with both plugs, wish they had a second obd2 or a splitter, lol.
|
Then again I doubt I'll be using the Cobb everyday. It would be a neat experiment to see before and after evaluations using the scangauge after installing a high flow cat, the mazsport ignition, and after the Cobb fuel economy tune.

I have never got over 340 a tank.
|
I did 1100 KMs or so over the weekend. On my last fill to full (no over-squeeze), for about 350KMs (3/8ths of a tank remaining - indicated) I filled with 41L of Esso 91 octane.
That works out to 11.7L / 100 KMs... not bad for "slightly over the limit" and a bit more at times. |
soooooo how are my canadian neighbors doin????..........i got a few ?s, do you guys sleep with you doors unlocked? are guns illegal in canada? is weed legal in canada? is canada a nice place to live?
|
1 -No
I lock the doors because my wife is a worrier, but I'm a lot more worried about relatives than strangers! 2 -No You can own rifles, if you keep them in a locked cabinet, or even handguns, but don't be carrying them around. 3 -No Cops still bust 'grow-ops' and confiscate bales of weed, but possession is still kind of a grey area..... 4 - ...the jury's still out. Spring is ALMOST here....the temp here is hovering around freezing, trees are starting to bud, the snowbanks get smaller every day. Ask again in June! S |
thanks!! i was just curious, i dont know y but theres somethin about canada that makes me ask ?s, probably cus i live in southern cali and all we hear about you guys is nothing

Beautiful and safe place to live...that's why we need to be wild and create fun... I think I have proven that Canada is NOT boring... :) |
