Mazda 2 Already behind?
Just read on Autoblog.com comparing the Mazda 2 and the Ford Fiesta. When I was with Mazda that was their big threat "if you dont do..........you wont get the Mazda 2". My opinion had always been that trying to compete head to head with Ford on what is basically the same car (Tribute and Escape) would not be pretty. The survey Autoblog did shows that 8206 people voted for Fiesta and only 1976 voted for the 2. SIGHHHHHHHHHHHH they never learn! lol

I am The One!
You know, everyone votes like this, but you have to keep in mind these are "Americans" you're dealing with. All they care about is what the little paper tells them. How the car goes about doing its business is "irrelevant".
I know here in Canada, between the Fiesta and the 2, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing more 2's than Fiestas.
People here have a different perspective. Just look at how many 3's you see nowadays.
I remember reading on Autoblog that the 3 has become Canada's #1 selling car. This is for the modern version of the 3. Just look how many 1st gen 3's are on the road. At this rate, there are going to be more 3's than there are beige Corollas! (And we all know how many of these are on the road! )
Personally, between the Fiesta and 2, I would still pick the 2. The Ford weighs too much, and it's got alot of "tech" that is nonsense in my books. I don't need that level of tech in a vehicle. It goes back to the KISS method.

I'm really surprised at the fuel economy of the Mazda 2: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t_drive_review
I think there's still a place for the Mazda 2 in the market, but like most current "B" class offerings a typically equipped variant is not that much less for a Mazda 3 which is a phenomenal car.

The impression I am getting of the Mazda2 is akin to the RX-8 in that the numbers don't tell the tale. Autoblog's reviewer said in a side-by-side driving comparison, the 2 was so much more enjoyable to drive. Despite the numbers largely favoring the Fiesta, it seems to be a question to the customer of what's more important; the driving experience, or the practicality.

The Fiesta and the Mazda 2 are not the same car.
According to Motortrend: "The 2 and Fiesta share a platform and with it, just three parts: front and rear wheel bearings, front upper strut mounts, and front anti-roll bar end links."

Yaris is a B-class competitor. The letters are the size class of the vehicle. eg. A Mazda 3 is "C" class.

In my opinion the car is about 3-4 years too late. Sales of Yaris, Fit, Versa and Accent are a smaller parts of the overall market each month. Our Yaris to Corolla ratio is about 14.1 in favor of the Corolla. Looks wise I think the Fiesta and the 2 are almost identical which will help Ford, because as in the past (Escort/Protege) the Ford dealers will tell customers they are the same car.
