Lease Takeover Questions before committing

Hey guys,

I am first in line to lease this RX8 from a guy downtown Toronto (it has the exact period I would like left on the lease (8 months))

-2005 Winning Blue RX8 GT Manual
-Currently has 63000km
-Lease expires July 2, 2008 and has 16000km remaining
-Added rear rotary emblem, chrome gas cap (has original), and side skirts which are all mine to keep after the lease.
-Payment is $670/month including all taxes
-He is willing to offer me the lease transfer fee ($399-599) as an incentive.

What do you guys think? Should I ask for more?

Also, I had a question about returning the car to Mazda after the lease is over. What kind of damage/wear & tear do they tolerate? Is there something about $3500 that is allowed?

I ask this because there is nothing wrong with the car but the summer tires are getting old. They would probably need to be replaced soon but I am not going to based on the fact I will be riding on winters 5 out of the 8 months I will have the car. What does Mazda Canada tolerate in this aspect?

Thanks guys!

EDIT: One more question (sry)...I am going to make the offer conditional to an inspection by the dealer. Is there anything specific that I should ask the dealer for? In my head, I have 1.) Engine Compression test, 2.) Visual inspection of ignition coils, 3.) Spark plug inspection, 4.) ???

Mazda Canada Credit does not expect the car to come back in its brand new shape.

The winshield is allowed 3 stone chips not biggest than a quarter nor has spider legs on them

Front and rear bumper are allowed to have any kind of scratches as long as they are NOT broken or have any holes on them

Each panel they allow 3 dents not to exceed the size of a twonnie

They also allow up to 1 burn hole on seats and door panels

Any rip on interior parts are not to exceed the length of 1 inch

When the vehicle is returned, as long as the check engine light is NOT on and the engine starts they will not charge anything

The $3500 worth of damage is called WEAR & CARE that has to be purchased before the owner takes delivery of the vehicle. However, it does NOT cover the over mileage you might exceed.

Mind you that dealerships do NOT do any more inspections on the lease returns, Mazda canada credit sublets the work to AUTOVIN since 2007

I used to be a General Sales Manager at a Mazda dealership until recently. You are more than welcome to ask more questions that you might have.

Mazda Canada supplies a template to determin acceptable damage before the lease is up. Someone will inspect the car before the end of the lease.

For the price you will be paying for a 2005 you could leaes a brand new 2007 for a lot less than that. I just did, with $2000.00 down. Consider a new one, it will come with 3 years warranty. Good Luck.

Hahahaha.... well really and truely the R8 doesnt really do anything for me~ I'd rather get a RS4...

I dont drive the 8 to work, I just bought a daily driver the new G35X... and I love this thing is the snow storm, if I wanna have some fun I could and if I just wanna chill and cut through snow the car handles like a dream!!

I say look for another lease, with $670 per month, it could be a 3 year lease, why don't you look for a 04 or 05 RX-8 with 4 year lease thats about to end. You'll be paying much less.

The $ you pay is dependent on the length of the lease! Therefore you wouldn't want to take over 2-year lease vs 4-year lease.
