@rx8thunder.

Ya, we should definitely meet up. I do see the same 2 or 3 8's roaming about our "hood". LOL.

Drop me a PM if you like and we can exchange numbers etc.

Having experienced 3 previous rotary engine failures (all seal related) I would be very interested in knowing what actually happened to it. I have been with Mazda since 1988 and havent EVER seen one seize up like that.

I'm think there had to be some sort of freak catastrophic oil pump failure.

For those people who are freaking out, yes RX-8s seem to lose engines at a more frequent rate than other cars. It does happen to all other cars too. A friend of mine had the 2.3L engine in his Mazda 6 go with 65k on it. My Dad had one of his GMC Savannas lose both an engine and transmission before 120k. Both followed the mantanance schedule to a T.

dont worry. we arent freaking out. Most of us are fully aware of the situation. Some of us are also fully aware that often a warranty engine is often a missdiagnosed problem (on an rx8). If i had a nickle for every time i've heard/read about an engine replaced under warranty and in the end only needing new coils well...i'd have a few nickles. lol.

seriously though, I think mazda 3 engines are more unreliable than the rx8s. Yes, ours is quirky, but we seem to do an engine under warranty on a mazda 3 at least once a month. and then there was that one month where we did 3, yes 3, mazda 3 engines under warranty in one month. All of them having the oil changed regularily and following the maintenance shcedule as close as a normal customer does. our warranty rep. was freaking out that month. lol. the heat has been on for us for a while since then and only now cooling off.

Like Al said in a previous thread (tips for dealing with your dealer, i beleive) mazdas warranty is getting really tight. they want service records and if you cant provide them, its a battle to get things covered under warranty. thankfully the rx8 engine warranty is really good and most people with these cars are pretty good about service records.

Hey guys i'm back...

Long story short, got the call from Mazda saying that they had just ordered me a new engine. Because i look after the car, and have kept all of the service up to date there were no issues at all with Mazda Canada on the warranty.

Now as to why the engine failed??? i don't have a clue, and Mazda Canada wont let the dealership take it apart as they want all failed engines sent back for dissection.

The odds are about 50/50 if the dealer will end up knowing exactly what failed internally (which means those are my odds as well)

Now it's time to sit back and wait for the resurrection of my 8

ARGH!!!!!

Now told that the dealership and i will find out when my engine should be delivered by the end of this week.

It's taken the F@%er's at Mazda North America THREE WEEKS to figure this out!!!

I've got to say that on the dealership level the service has been great, but getting info out of Mazda North America has SERIOUSLY PISSED ME OFF %#$@&%^%!!!!

How the %#@& can it take 3 weeks to figure out when an engine will become available!!!!

THIS SUCKS

I can assure you that the dealer is doing everything to get it for you. The engine does show it is back ordered, and there is not much else they can do except wait along with you!

I know, i've got no probs with the dealership, they are bending over backwards trying to track things down.

It's the constant lack of info being provided to the Dealership from Mazda North America that has me pissed. The dealer service and parts reps are being jerked around by constant lack of clear information from above, no matter how hard they try (and beleive me they are trying) it's impossible for them to get a straight answer to pass on to the customer(ME)

Also just a note to everyone out there... BE NICE to the people at the dealership, I've been going through this for 3 weeks now, but have not once lost it on the staff there. I know they are doing what they can and for people to vent on them isnt fair!

I am absolutely PISSED right now, but no sense yelling at them, they want to get my car fixed as much as I do! and besides playing nice leaves a better taste once eveything is all said and done

Keep your chin up and take one for team!
Hope you get some better news soon, but from my dealing with my dealer it's a long road ahead.
Last time I was in for my security system (Smart Card) not working properly they had my 8 for 9 days.
At least I got to try a free 3 for my time away from my 8, what did they give you?

Sorry to hear about the delay, very frustrating. With the money you are saving on gas, buy a new performance part to make yourself feel better
