I think I will need a new engine in Calgary...

My 8 is having hot start issues,
from what I read on the forums, some people seem to suggest a new starter and some say its a compression issue and will need a new engine..

My concern is that my 04 is from the US, I have 73xxx kms. Under the 100,000 mile engine warranty from the US...
Have you guys heard of any dealerships honoring US engine warranty?

If not how much does it usually cost for a new engine in calgary?

Thanks

Sorry no idea.
And in case you hadn't noticed, no one in Calgary frequents this board anymore
Too bad... we were all such a great crowd!

I wouldn't say that, I get to cow town at least 4-5 times a month, just last week I saw a blue 8 parked in the public parking lot on ninth next to the calgary tower.

Before I got my car, I wondered the same thing. I called the guys at http://www.rotaryengine.com/ and they told me around $3,500. That was some time ago though...

$3500 for a new engine?! Dang that's low, I had $10,000+ in my head for some odd reason. Now I'm not so worried about mine kicking the bucket.

I am getting a compression test done tmrw,
according to my contact at north hill mazda, they will cover my engine even though the car is from the us, he just said it'll take some paper work..
So let's hope I do get a new engine under warranty...otherwise im going to have to make a trip to montana...

Update: so one of my rotors compression is at 6.7, the other at 6.3
They replace engines if below 6.9..(Compression on a new engine is 10:1)
They've started the paper work, I'm glad mazda camada will take care of this and saves me a trip to montana...

CALGARIANS!

I'm trying to re-liven-up (if that's even a word) the Calgary RX-8 crowd since I will be getting mine mid to late May. There's a thread up -> https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/alberta-rx-8-sightings-193716/ for the Calgary sightings and maybe we could use it as a Calgary people meeting place?

Yep they should. Mazda Canada updated the warranty on the engine replacement to 8 years and 120000km I think. I know I had mine recently replaced at 106000kms! Good luck, mine is running great with a definite difference in acceleration....
I had it replaced at North Hill Mazda...they were good once we sorted out the warranty issue....

Do you have to be the first owner to get this warranty? I bought mine used in Texas. Its getting hard to start and it has low end acceleratio issues/ wierd vibration...

I am not sure, but I think that the Mazda warranty is transferrable. So you should be covered.

Update: So Mazda Canada wanted previous maintenance history. (I have history at North Hill since 30k kms). So I called Mazda USA and with dealer codes where other recalls were done found 2 dealerships. Got some record from one, the other had gone out of business so no luck getting records.
I told this to service manager and he said he will try to talk to Mazda..

Just called me this morning to tell me they will need to do more tests, (Cam and vacuum? ) so I will be taking her in monday morning. I thought Rotaries don't have cams... do they?

Symptom: Car would not restart after engine was warmed up, it takes 15-30 minutes to cool down before being able to restart. Prior to this I had coils/plugs/wires replaced, as well as a new battery. Next would have been a new starter (although it starts like a champ when cool) but compression test obviously explains why it wont start when hot.
