How much did you pay for your car? (Vancouver)

Hi guys, I'm new here and I'm going to purchase a Red 6 speed GS (Base model) in Vancouver. I'd really appreciate if you guys could tell me how much you paid for your car so I have an idea when I deal with the sales. I'm looking to save at least $1500 -$2000 off the MSRP($36795) with the GS model.

I have not test driven the car yet but I will do that tomorrow. I'm looking to close the purchase in a few weeks. So any advice would be much appreciated. Sorry If this topic was posted before.

I don't know if you'll get that much off the GS model. The invoice on it is about $33,500 so not a lot of mark up. If you get some accessories...spoiler, mud flaps, etc then you can probably get that. I did in T.O. but also ordered a GT, 6MT, spoiler, f/r mud flaps, wheel locks and then got the F&R rotary accents at the last minute...1 free and 1 at cost.

Good luck!

Thanks spaceman for the dealer Invoice price. Do you know what the invoice price for the GT version is?

fietguy: what's wrong with the GS model? I don't really need the leather interior and I seldom use the sunroof. I also like the extra headroom in the GS model. I know the moonroof and the leather and other accessories would make it more "expensive" ... but what else is there for the extra $4k?

I just got back from my test drive with Metrotown Mazda, the car is pretty solid and I like the sound of the rotary engine.

Btw I'm driving a 03 Altima 3.5 now, unfortunately it's an Auto and I really miss the fun of MT. (Used to be driving a Integra GSR)
I'll get the 8 as soon as I've sold it.

Thank you all for replying.

Thanks HiTMaNN.

I'm still debating whether or not to add the extra $3k for the GT model (no moonroof for the head room). Do you guys think the black/red leather, anti-theft system, Xenon headlight, and the power driver seat are worth the money?

Also is there a list of the GS and GT plus all accessories dealer invoice in Canadian dollars? I saw one before here but it was in US.

In the GT, don't forget you get the traction control, dynamic stability control, auto level headlights, and the XENON are real HID's.

I paid $40,175 (before tax) for the GT package (stock silver, moonroof, 6cd). I think sticker price at the time was ~$41,500 (without tax).

I initially started an offer with $39,300 ($45,000 w/ all taxes), but they haggled me up. In hindsight, I know I could have gotten a better deal... but oh well.

Paid extra $2,549 for 7yr. warranty, plus ~$500 for special protection (full package) on top .

I somewhat agree with Fietguy... the GT package is almost too good of a deal to give up (unless you're seriously strapped for cash). You also get a 6cd changer.

Love the car =)

Thanks for replying MyRxBad and Enzolor. When I make my offer I think I would go for as close to the dealer's invoice as possible (probably plus 4-5%, is that a good idea?) and try different Mazda dealers.

HiTMaNN how did you get that free oil change and filter card? Is it something that you can buy as well? I'd like to not worry about paying the oil changes for the next 5 years at a discounted price, that would be real nice. I live close to Metrotown Mazda so I prefer my service there in the future.

For the people with the moonroof, does it ever make any ticking or squeaking noise when it's opened? Reason for this is I have a real bad experience with the Altima's sunroof making this little ticking noice and it's driving me crazy. I'd rather not open it. Nissan sucks..

Hey

I managed to get an Rx-8 GS model at MSRP (approx. $37,000) and I got a free spoiler, free side strakes and free tinted windows. I'm also a university grad, so I got $1000 off.

It is possible to get a deal, but you need to be a good negotiator. I told my dealer that another dealer was willing to give me all those things for free, and asked if he could beat it. At first, he just matched it, but eventually he caved in and gave it all to me. Just do your research, and be a hard *** in negotiating. You'll do fine

Oh yeah, be prepared to walk-away if you don't get the feeling they are budging on the offer.

I had to stand up before they stopped the haggling...

"... wait wait.. let's see what we can do, we're close" That's why I think I could have done better, should have stood firm earlier.

Regarding the card, you can purchase it, but you get a free oil change from Metro-mazda with your purchase. You can always buy the card later.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the info guys!

So $38,600 eh, Ok I have decided to get a GT (no roof) with wheel lock (the other exterior accessories are nice but they'll probably get stolen later)... so 38,600 - 1000 = $37,600 is my best offer!! What do you think HiTMaNN, do you think I have a chance at that? Yeah I'm so excited and I'll talk to Kirk and try to get a free service card too! ok that's my plan. :p

Considering it's family, I inclined to believe him. I did <ahem> mention someone on this forum got invoice +$200, but they didn't budge.

Incidentally, Hitmann, your cousin is the sales manager.. the guy in the front office who drives the Titanium 8?

The sticker price on a GT w/out roof is ~$40500 I would think. You're asking for almost $3000 discount... to be honest, that will be a tough sell, but worth trying. Anyway, start as low as you can, but act serious about buying.

By the way, they threw in the wheel locks for free, and I presume that's usually the case. They're only ~$40 in value.
