How long do you plan on keeping your 8?

Just curious as to how long you plan to keep your 8, since it's pretty much confirmed the 8 is on its way out in 2011 from Mazda's fleet.

Footman still planning on testing out the 2+2?

Footman 05-06-2010 02:01 PM

Yes, as planned... I will be taking the car through marriage and first baby using the rear seats! Never selling the car. I'm going to collect it and keep it in some sort of shed in the backyard in my future home.

Bullitt 05-06-2010 02:05 PM

Til the RX-9 comes out.

RXeckless 05-06-2010 02:15 PM

Their burying me in it! It's in my living will. Hell of a lot cheaper than a casket now a days. LoL

Huey52 05-06-2010 02:18 PM

'til the potential end of series MazdaSpeed RX-8 or 16X-based new RX, whichever comes first.

2hit6 05-06-2010 02:39 PM

Until the FT-86 comes out....lolz... no I think I'm going to keep this for a while....

I'll sell my house before I sell my 8...

I plan on keeping mine for as long as I possibly can. Eventually it will become a project car once I have a stable life, house, another vehicle, etc. and maybe hand it down to the favorite child as a grad present.

For now though I'm going to drive her as long as she'll carry me.

Snrub 05-06-2010 03:21 PM

I don't anticipate a reason to get rid of it until it's extremely old. Couple of potential reason: 1. Gas went up to $10/L I might get another car and use the RX-8 sparingly. 2. Major mechanical failure / chronic repairs needed (by that I mean 15+ years old, big KMs, etc.)

ScubaSteve8 05-06-2010 03:27 PM

Its cheaper to keep her my friend...

expo1 05-06-2010 04:03 PM

I have had mine since 2/2004 based on current resale value and 141,000 miles there is no point in selling it now.

Chris_Bangle 05-06-2010 04:48 PM

Till bmw starts making the E30 M3 again :) or till I get an elise

mysql101 05-06-2010 05:26 PM

I planned to keep it forever since it wouldn't make financial sense to offload it for next to nothing.

Unfortunately the reality was that I ran out of garage space. I didn't want to leave a nice car out in the hot FL sun, so off it went :(

maskedferret 05-06-2010 05:35 PM

I will be keeping my car until the next Mazda rotary offering is available.

JantzenRX-8 05-06-2010 06:12 PM

I dont plan on ever selling mine. Once i feel like buying my next daily driver my 8 will turn into a track car (it basically already is and i'm just living with it :lol2: -- loud exhaust, racing seats, firm suspension, squeaky track pads ).

It will probably be my daily driver for the next 2-3 years at least. I might get some sort of commuter car in the mean time but i probably wont make a big purchase on a second car for a while.

Scoot RX-8 05-06-2010 08:01 PM

Maybe after we get past the year 2012 if the world does not come to an end ... then I will decide.

9291150 05-06-2010 08:17 PM

It's been 5 years for me so far - a record - will keep it 'till I break it or as long as something that's more engaging to drive that can still fit 4 people comes along for non-stupid money (like under 60 thou. new)...nothing yet.

haha

mscamp02 05-06-2010 08:59 PM

planning on keeping it for many many years to come. I plan on simply putting it away whenever I move on to another car and let it sit in a garage.

Redshift 05-06-2010 09:34 PM

I plan an keeping it until we get our flying cars and/or there is no more gas... whichever comes first.
I've had it for almost 7 years (original batch 2003 car) and given the resale value and how long it's been paid for, there's no point in selling it.
I figure my race FC will eventually just be too darn old, so I'll maybe cascade the RX8 down to the track roll, and replace with the RXwhateveriscurrentatthetime for a street toy. (I already have other vehicles for the commuter beater roll.)

rx8thunder 05-06-2010 09:43 PM

Will keep mine as long as I love to drive it... in other words, forever :)

REV-illusions 05-07-2010 09:37 AM

Ditto with most of you guys...

I'm keeping this sucker... it'll retire from daily driver at some point and become my weekend/track warrior.

Honestly, if I had the money/room I'd hold onto my FC3S5 as well... but... she requires too much at this point for me to afford... and it's not the least bit practical in anyway... the RX8 is by comparison.

Live strong my fellow rotards!

wcs 05-07-2010 09:41 AM

+1 on Project car

Ka Kui 05-07-2010 09:54 AM

I will be keeping my RX-7, RX-8, and maybe buy the new RX-9 when it's out...... only rotaries.....

rx8-druggist 05-07-2010 10:06 AM

I'd always planned to keep mine for at least 3 or 4 years, then see how the new RX-?? pans out and decide whether I'm sticking with rotaries or make a jump to something different!
