Heater not working properly

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem:

I had my HVAC temperature set to the hottest setting and the air flow going through the dash vents only. I went to turn the temp. down one click (about 90% heat) and the car started blowing cold air!!!

It was only about -5 degrees at the time. I had been driving for at least 10 minutes so the engine temperature was normal. I turned it back up to the hottest setting again and it took about 10-15 seconds before the heat came back.

I tried this again on my way to work this morning and the same thing happened - and it was plus 6 at the time?!?!?

I'm taking it in tomorrow to Dave Wood Mazda.
I searched the forum for a similar problem but didn't really find anything along what I experienced.

Let me know if anyone else has noticed this problem.

Sorry, but this has to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time... Not that your car being broken is funny... just that someone is complaining that the '8 isn't providing the passenger compartment with enough heat There's a first time for everything I suppose !!

Quite apart from the comfort issues within the passenger compartment, the lack of heat makes for a dangerous drive for us this time of year because the windows fog in no time at all.......something that is not likely a common issue in the southern U.S.

Hmm. The rear defroster I can understand is a bit of a problem, but you really shouldn't be using the recirculator in the winter; the cold, dry air is what you need to heat up to defog the moister air inside the car and clear your windows. Recirculating the warm moist air inside is just going to slow the defogging effect.

i know for a fact that my 8 loses heat when i'm coming around a corner. i guess the coolant in the heater core is being shifted...that's why i momentarily lose heat.

i'm not saying that i use the recirculator or the a/c they just don't work!, but i really want the rear window defroster. i can't lower the temp in the car also!! it's pritty hot in there after 20min. I cant stand it when i know **** dose not work properly even thought i dont use it, i just like to know it will will if i ever need it.

i just went to the dealership and they said that the part they need will take 2-3weeks to get there from japan:S &*#@ing bs.

This car does not have great air or heat. When its really cold outside (-20C or lower) and you are on the highway, you may struggle to keep the car at operating temperature. Not enough heat, unfortunately. A/C in the summer is also not very cold. You have to use recirculate in both cases to get more cold or hot air. Once you start fogging up, turn off the recirculating function.

Its a fact with our car. Its a joke actually, but that's what you own and its not going to change unless Mazda sends out a mass recall and changes the heatercore and other parts. Aparently, the heater core is very small.

Hey guys - just got my car back late yesterday.
Mazda replaced the heating unit - only took a day to get the part.
Seemed to work fine this morning, but now it blows hot until it's halfway into the cold setting.
Oh well - it's better than before.

I'm ususally the one blowing hot air and not the car - just thought that was the way our Symbiosis was set up...

This is a problem for me as well.

It was 11 degrees tonight in Michigan.

I have a M/T Sport Package, so no automatic climate control.

I basically had to leave the heat on the highest, with the fan on the full, to get enough heat.

I'm starting to learn this car's warts. I hope I'm almost done.

Same here. Not enough heat. Does anyone know if they have a revised, larger heater core that could be replaced under warranty?

FYI - My heater was replaced under warranty....not sure if a larger one was put in, but it's working pretty good now.

Chad, which dealer? I'm going to call them and find out.

Thanks in advance.

It was Dave Wood Mazda in Newmarket.

As soon as I turned the heat down from the hottest setting, it started to blow cold. When I picked it up I didn't get much detail about the problem....just that they replaced the heating unit.
