GTA DRL repair - gauging interest

Are your Daytime running lights failing? One on and one off?

I'm looking to do a DRL module repair DIY

If you have a defective DRL module in or out of your car and can get it to me in Sauga or Burls then let me know via PM or in this thread

Please check your bulbs and fuses to confirm that the module is bad.

It will cost you a bit of time and approx. $10 for the relays (what they cost me)

Thanks

I have my ebrake light on even when the ebrake is down, so I dunno if it is because of my brake pads being close to bare bone (someone said that he had that issue, and when he did his brakes the light went off) Cause also 1 of my highbeam bulbs are out, so my DRL's dont work which i dont really care about them. Im just wondering if this module can be causeing the light?? Ive had no drl's for like a year and had no issues with the ebrake light till now. So maybe you can give me some advise?

The module will turn off the DRLs with the handbrake on...
But that brake warning light is for more than just the e-brake. It's trying to tell you that you have a brake system problem. Check your brake fluid reservoir level and top it up if required. You could also have an issue with the switch on the e-brake. Or some other issue...?

k so im on the pad, i checked my break reservoir and its in the middle. When I brake hard, the light comes on, and stays on for either a bit, or a few days then shuts off. So i dunno if it is because the pad is very low, when i press the brake hard its pumping alot of fluid because there is little pad left? Like i said, another member said he had the same issue and when he changed his pad the light went out... so i dunno.

Just top up the brake reservoir with some fresh brake fluid. When you replace the pads, do the opposite and siphon the excess fluid out.

Have Mazda updated the DRL module? My first one died after 2 years, but the second one has been going strong for a couple years now.

No idea about the module but it's possible that the relays were a weak batch...?
They seem to suffer some form of overload: there's arching marks on the contacts.
My module started to die at around 4 years

They can be repaired

Hey dark, sorry I've been such a lazy *** about my DRL, it's still broken, I just don't know how long you have this offer going on for.. can do this on a sunday when I tell the wife I'll do the oil change/xmas shopping.. lemme know. I'll gladly cover your time and parts if it makes it work better and I did replace the bulbs only to find it's still the DRL. Life has just been busy since moving to Lamebridge.

I can do this on Sunday... even this Sunday
The only catch is you'll have to come to Burls since that's where the company's soldering equipment is.
I'll have to pick up my parts and get ready...

Speaking of stupid Mazda design mistakes, there is a huge one coming up that will hit all the 2004-2006 owners related to faulty wiring harness for the third brake light on the trunk lid. It shorts the circuit out when you go over a bump and blows the STOP fuse. When that happens your ABS and DSC computers go into limp mode.

I just have to find my relays

Edit:
still no luck. When I switched to the Jetta for winter the relays were misplaced...
Don't worry. I'll locate them...

ohhhhh mod meet Sunday ....

Hey DB I wonder if the low post count in your thread here has something to do with people not actually understanding what you mean by ..... DRL

I know this is a huge issue ... I would have bet this thread would have had a lot more interest.

BTW I'm home all of December, interested in doing a Greddy Oil Pan/Fuel Pump/Clutch Bracket sometime?
