GTA - Which brand and grade of Fuel do you use ?
There's been a ton of debate on the forum with people all around world on which is the best fuel to use in our engine under different types of climate. Just wondering which brand and octane rating are my buddies here in Toronto uses. Which one you do use and which one seems to run the best from your experience?
I like Shell - 89.

If you'd like some facts to base your decision on, here are the latest numbers on how much crap is in your local gasoline -
Can Fed Sulphur Report....
Pick your local supplier, and check out whether you are buying your dino juice from a state-of-the-art refinery or from "Fred Flintstones' Gasoline Inc!"
(My refinery has been in the lead for the last twenty years, looks like some others are catching up....slowly!

Being high compression engines, you will have a higher probability of pinging with a lower octane gas.
Your PCM will automatically adjust ignition timing and you will see decreases in power. To some, the butt dyno may not detect it but in actuality... you are seeing a decrease in power....even if it is slightly
The octane of the gas does change the actual power output of the engine... but the higher octane prevents detonation.... and in turn the PCM can adjust settings for optimal power.. This is evident in most high compression or turbo'ed cars..

Actually the reason you need to run a higher Octane fuel in a rotary is because of your oil metering pump. The oil you are putting into the engine to lubricate the apex seals lowers the Octane level of your fuel. Rotaries will run fine on 87 however when you add the oil into that equation you lower the octane rating by at least 2-3, ergo your 91 Octane is acting like 86-87 in a piston engine.
Good timing for your question Smoker!
I just switched back to Shell 91 yesterday and I find that the engine revs up more smoothly when you drive it hard, as opposed to Shell 87 (or any regular I guess). In the city with traffic, you might not notice it so much. Raw performance wise I don't think 91 makes the car run faster or anything like that.

Very Interesting.... all very interesting findings.
I'm thinking about start using Shell 91 exclusively. Given the current price of the gasoline, in terms of percentage that extra $0.10 is not that significant of a premium as before.
