Group Buy Led #1: Interior

So I think its time to start one of the first few group buys for the Fall/Winter term.

First up is led for the interior, if there is enough interest in the footwell lights, I'll talk to rasp and see if we can order a set in together.

Post up if your interested, and what lights you want switched, and color. I'll sort out everything within Sunday, gives more time for people to see what they want. Ideally, want to place order by Monday.

I'm looking at buying from vleds/canadianautoworks (if there source in the states is vled/ rx8strakes.

RX8Strakes Light Set: http://www.rx8strakes.com/index.asp?...TS&Category=86

Vleds Site: http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/fp/SFV/32481

I'm not gonna do exterior yet, cause it might get complicated. I'm interested in switching my xenons to a higher K and getting either HID fogs or Led to Match the Xenons.

RX8Strakes Total for the set comes at 28 bucks, prior to shipping.
Will update price for Vleds soon.

I would love to join this GB. I want everything changed to LED (blue on Sand leather I guess? Need more research...) for my interior and exterior EXCEPT Fogs, Highbean, Stock 4300k Xenons -- may get 6000k HID for both fog and low beam...will see.)

Count me in. Thanks Jay.

I think the syntax format is:
[name] (color of footwell) ; (location of interior LEDs required separated by commas)

Update:
So I figured out the Vanity LED:

Cost 4.99, also available in Blue.

Now for 194 bulbs, essentially the rest of the light bulbs for the interior, we have two options:

or

One is a 5 LED SMT, and the other is a 11 LED SMT.

Which one should we go with?

Not sure how bright 5 LED would be. Anyone have practical experience with these?

It has to depend on your application people.
Remember that the 194 is used in the front parking lamps, corners, all interior except for dome, and license plate.

Certain sockets have protrusion limitations. For example, your door 194's are mounted straight. You have to measure the distance of clearance from the base to the lense. The map is a good example of a place where you can install a longer 194. The corners as well. The longest length is the front parking lights.

Measure the clearance distance of each place that you want to install, and ensure that the lamp you choose will fit in there.

A search brought up an issue with one guy, he couldnt get the 5 LED SMT to fit in the Map Lights, but was able to get the 11 LED SMT into the Map Light.

What are you using in your interior Footman, how many LED SMTs?

If you go ALL SMT's inside, they will be very very bright. If that is your cup of tea (for maximum brightness) then by all means go ahead.

I prefer the subtle hint for the doors, so I did not go SMT for the doors. I used a standard 5-high power LED (4 radial firing, 1 centre fire). Sometimes, you don't want it too bright in the unimportant areas.

You don't need mega bright for glove box, so I also recommend AGAINST using SMT-LEDs for glove box. You may use SMT-LEDs in the trunk because that is actually useful to see how many bags of cocaine and weed you got left to sell in the parking lot when it's dark at night.

I highly recommend that you check out my interior at night time to gauge what you want. If you want it just as bright as mine, then use similar components as I do. if you want brighter, go to SMT-LEDs throughout the interior.

I am switching the dome from a 9-high power LED festoon to a 16 SMT-LED because the rear needed to be brighter. Again, this is all a matter of personal preference.

The license plate, I am currently using a 4-LED white, but I realized since our cars have only a single lamp in the middle, the 4-LED white's light output angle is too narrow, so I am switching to something with a more wide spread beam (but again not too bright), hence I will not be using SMT-LEDs for the license plate. I highly recommend AGAINST using SMT-LED for rear license plate.

Map Lights, measure the width and length of the hole and ensure that the width and length of your bulb fits. I am using a 6-LED RED in the maps, and realized again that the map lights housing have reflectors so I wasn't really making use of them with the narrow angle of the light of my LEDs. I am switching to SMT-LED's for the maps, and definitely picking some with radial-firing mounts to better make use of the reflectors in the base of the map lamps.

The above are the recommendations I make. Everyone can definitely learn from the mistakes I made.

Pros,

I'm interested in the main dome light for the Miata. I'm pretty sure it's the same fonstoon light bulb for every Mazda.
I ordered a big one for the applicaiton thinking it'll fit, but there's hardly any space in the main dome light. I think the max LED's that'll fit are 2 or 3 SMT LED's.

Let me know the price. I'll take a look at the site and give you a reference.

Thanks,

I want to point out that the 11 LED SMT is actually an 11 LED MSMT.
They are the "micro SMT" type LEDs and thus explains why the 11 LED would fit, but the 5 LED would not. Look carefully, they are smaller.

yes I am, I talked to Kaffka, and we decide we would postpone this till next month. Spreading out the led group buys over the Christmas, less expensive.

October - Stealth Bulbs and Gaskets
November - Inter LED
December - Exterior Led and HID Fogs
January - Clear Corners
February - Piano Black Pillars

I'm in for the group buy.

Here are the references just in case:

Need 3 orders of these:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

1 order of these:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

2 orders of these:

and finally 1 order of these:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...d/0/SFV/32481#

And I'm going to try this for the Miata:

1 order of these:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

I'll need this for the dome on the Miata:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

Thanks Pros for doing this.
This the first time trying v-leds. I usually get these from autolumination. But I'm curious to see if there's any difference.
