Got sh*t from a cop in Niagara

Hey all, first post in the regional forms. I'm from Niagara Falls area, but currently live in Kitchener.

I was driving into Niagara On The Lake and there was a cop doing seatbelt checks. He waves me over, and told me that the tint i got FROM THE FACTORY was illegal. he said he couldn't determine if my seatbelt was on from outside the vehicle.

Anyway he threatened he could fine me, but let me off, and warned that I better do something about the tint. As if.

I think maybe he was having a pissy day, it was like -30 out and he was standing at the intersection. hiding behind a stop sign. Must have been in sh*t at the station, maybe cracked up a new cruiser or something

Its funny how it seems if a cop is having a bad day, they make a point to give you a bad day as well.

One of our local RX8's had the same problem. A tint ticket for the factory windows. I don't know what can be done but fight the ticket in court and plead your case to the judge.
If you held a white sheet of paper behind the officer's or judge's car, their car windows would be tinted too.

My dad got a tint ticket on his bone stock f-150 like 5 years ago. He got a lawyer and everything to fight it. I guess out east there's a test or something to determine how much light can go through the window, and it has to be at a certain level, or it's illegal. Here in Ontario we don't have that, so it's up to the discretion of the cop. Anyways, my dad won, ticket was thrown out, but there isn't really anything you can do about it.

The idea here is that no one has tinted their windows. It's the way it came from Mazda that is giving problems.

If that happened to me, I would have thanked the Almighty. Instead I got pulled for street racing for doing 70 in a 70 F'zone.

Welcome to Ontario!

Like I was telling Thumper when he arrived, the actual highway traffic act reads "Windows Coated". There is no minimum or maximum percentage etc. All the officer has to say in court is "I did not feel secure approaching the vehicle as I could not clearly see the driver and occupants." I know this for fact as one of my good and long time friends is a police officer, and has never had that charge dropped or reduced if he was in court. A good rule of thumb to follow if you have tinted windows and are pulled over is to lower your window before the cop has a chance to approach your vehicles.

There you go. The window isn't coated. The U.V. film is laminated in the window glass. There isn't any coating.

I turn on my heat full blast and open the window anyways. Screw the cold, it's best not to give them any ammo.

i worked with a guy that was with the OPP for a while. he told me if i ever get pulled over at night, the very first thing i should do is flip on my interior lights. I cant even imagine how nerve racking it can be approaching a car that you pulled over for whatever reason. people hate the police to begin with, then you hear about people being stabbed and stuff....i figure, and he confirmed, if you turn the light on, the officer is set at ease just that little bit more almost always will go easier on you unless you were really doing something stupid.

Wow in the 12 years or so I never got pulled over once then in the RX8 I've only had it for a year and 3/4 and for got how many times I've been pulled over. Maybe 5 or so and not once did they mention my tint which is def illegal... 16% if I can remember correctly.

That sucks...maybe he just had a bad day...
