Got my Shinka :) (updated with Pix)

Hi All,

I finally got an RX8 SE monday night. Went through one full tank of gas and got 400 KM before the warning light went off. Going to give its first car wash tomorow. And yes i did alot of reading and did get the basic stuff for Zaino to get her nice and shinny.

maybe i can even go to the meet on the 27th.. i sure cant wait !

Ill try to post some pix after the wash

Thanks
Ryan

I agree with Neo there. Get that mileage up so you can finally run it like it was built for.

I would love to get the mileage up there so i can drive it the way its ment to be but Ottawa might just be too far for me and my fiance. Im at 700 km now and on my 2nd tank

Did a good wash over the weekend and she was pretty in copper red unfortunately my area is just too dusty coz of constructions so i might have to wash her frequently.

Right now just searching my way in the audio section. planning to hookup a single 10 to compliment the factory system.

Thanks
Ryan.

thanks for the compliments !

Galaxy8 so i guess our Shinkas have same birthdates May 1 at 10p.m. Few more days for me till i reach 1000 on her and oil change is not a bad idea

however i got my 1st stone chip. Anyone know where i get grab those 3m film to protect the front? just something to lessen the possibilities of bigger stone chips. I was already driving like a granny and still no luck.

I found something weird though every time i move forward coming from a reverse (like parking) i hear a clunk sound on the front driver side wheels. It happens when i make a right turn. I guess time to visit the dealership.

Other than that i cant wait to give more gas after the breakin period. So far thought i am getting more mileage of a full tank which is good news

thanks
Ryan

nice! the birthday of my "shinka" is May 2nd, 11am haha I absolutely love everything about it, the color, the interior, the polishd Rims and ESPECIALLY the attentions Im getting. Girls just pull up beside me and say "Hi", this had never happened before for the last couple years of driving a Lexus RX330 or a 2006 WRX.

only thing I dont like is the milleage. I mean I know it is bad, but i never knew it is THAT bad. The manual says City driving 12.9L/100km, so far i've refilled the tank twice and Im averaging closer to 15.5L/100km, almost 35%-40% more gas than the RX330, ouch. Oh well, gotta pay to play right

Sorry for misinforming you kpsxtyone! I actually have an '06 Galaxy Grey Mica RX-8. I wasn't clear on my post, now that I've read it again. I did pick mine up at 10p.m. May 1st though. I'm actually having the oil changed tonight, and I'm going to start exploring the upper RPM band now that I 've passed the 1000km mark! I do have the same clunking noise as you, however it is only when I pull out of a parking spot, after the car has been stopped for a while. Could be the same problem as I always back the car in, so it would be happening afer I have reversed. I don't ever hear it while I'm driving. I going to pay more attention and see if I hear anything while driving, I've been so happy listening to the engine that I've blurred everything else out!

Later!

- its like a chick magnet that works I think the color is really attractive its what my fiance said once she saw the car plus the shape of the RX8 is just one of a kind.

as for gas consumption, my first tank i was able to go 400 km before it fuel lit up and filled her with 47 liters. 2nd tank was 422 before it lit up and filled her with 48 liters. So with a 60 liter tank i might be able to push 500 on a full tank however i was just reving the car till 4 at the most

Galaxy8
- i thouht i was the only one hearing it.. you are right i never caught it at first because i was soo happy with the car that I overlooked the small details and Im going to make a visit sometime this week with the quick oil change.

Hela
- if i say yes my fiance might confiscate the car

Catch you later
Ryan

Let me know what you find out. I went for my oil change tonight, and spoke to the service guy. His explanation is that it is the drive shaft that has to spin the opposite way after you've gone in reverse. So, after having reversed, when you're ready to go forward he says its just the play in the drive shaft having to rotate the opposite way and clunks. Doesn't really make sense and I don't agree, but it wasn't worth arguing with him at this point. I'm just going to monitor it and search and see if there's any info to be had on this subject. Let me know what you find out! Btw, where are you taking your car?

Im going to the dealership at dundas and erin mills. Im going to for a quick chat with the service guy and see what he says. My buddy has an rx8 too but never had that clunking noise. Your right its too early to argue about it yet I have an 81 starlet and never really though that would be the case (reverse go forward and the driveshaft clunks).

going to go there on friday morning

till then (try not to get speeding ticket hehehehehe)

Thanks, I'll try not to!! Let me know what you find out. Like I had said, I didn't really buy his excuse, but I guess time will tell.

Take care!

Huh?

Play in the driveshaft? Umm, I'm going to call BS on this one, unless they're trying to dumb it down a little. Your transmission gearbox controls the direction and rotation rate of the driveshaft as it feeds the rear wheels.

The more I think about it the more I agree that his excuse was BS. Plus, today I had the car parked on the side of the street, and did not back it up. When I left there was no one in front of me so I just pulled out straight. I heard the clunk as usual, but never heard it again throughout my ride. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the driveshaft rotation. Is it possible that it may be hand brake related? Could it be that the e-brake is maybe sticking and so when I pull away it is "breaking" free? Just a shot in dark, but maybe a possibility. I'm going to start parking it without using the e-brake (on level ground) and see if I still get the clunk. Anyone else with ideas?

I *think* I heard it too in my 8 today, maybe just because its in the back of my head somewhere after reading this thread. I'm going to do some reverse/forward tomorrow and see if I can hear it again

So today i got an oil change for the 8. drove with the mechanic and the clunk sound only happened once and didnt happen while we were going back and forth (right turn) He wanted to hear it again (i think shinka got nervous hehehehe) so he decided to check the suspension (front) and didnt find anything out of the ordinary. So we decided to give it some time maybe a month of driving and check it again. So that it for the clunking noise

Well as for service it was not that great but it was were i got my 8 so might as well try their oil change service. The mechanic spilled oil on the battery cover and just wipped it. Knowing me i used a bit of soap to clean it ( dont want dust to start sticking) Im going to use the Search tool here and find a good (close to my area atleast) experience from our co-RX8 owners at the board.

And yes im a victim of stone chips last night while on my way home (it was also raining hard that time) so got my self some touch up paint. With the help of the search tool i found a lot of helpful ideas for getting a near perfect stone chip touch up.

And Yup i drove it to the redline and I am very happy i can try the car (exit on turns) harder .. i did notice though that the SE came with Bridgetone tires and the one at the dealership (non-SE) came with the dunlops.. dont really know what the difference is but its all good... Probably going to try the car in one of the Auto-X at the Hershey Centre one of this days.

Its all good now... gave her a quick bath and shes all nice and clean. ( I know its going to rain but cant stand a bronw car hehehe.. my area is full of construction ;(

till then,
Ryan

Hey Ryan,
congrats on the car man....I absolutely love the SE!

I'm close to getting one myself (as you can see from my "haggle" thread).

Can I ask you did you get a good deal? If so, how?

Also, yours came with all-weather or performance bridgestones?

Thanks,
One Jealous Bastard!
