Gas Strike

We as a people and consumers of the world really need to get together and have a world wide gas strike against the all oil companies. If we the people can get together on energy day and shut our lights off for a few hours in a day, why can we not get together and stop buying fuel for one day.
It just seems so easy to do, we all just stay home for one day.The oil companies make no money that day,the government doesn't make any money that day. Sure we the people don't make any money for the day,but it would be worth it for the big picture.
A large statenemt has just been made by we the people in one day. It just seems so easy to do for one day.

Thats my rant for the day because I just filled up my work truck and my 8 and it cost me a wopping $ 280.00 bucks

lol, I'm sorry... I mean no offence to you, but what do you think a strike will do? You really think one day will make any difference whatsoever? We need, and will continue to use petroleum products regardless of how high prices can and will get. Oil companies know this, and everyone knows this.

Until Hydrogen or something as viable as hydrogen is released to the public, we will be the slaves of simple economic supply and demand princeples or you will just have to find another way to travel. Simple.

If every one thinks that way then nothing will happen.
If every one says lets make a change then something just might.

It is just a rant that I'm sure every one is having right now

There had been some sort of an attempt at organizing a gas strike on March 10th, but obviously, nothing happened with that. Apathy ftw.

Lol! What? It's a product that you demand. Not that you deserve, nor is it regulated. Complain all you want. It's like asking for a free Lamborghini for all and if you complain enough, make a compelling argument, and get a large enough group of people, maybe your wishes and demands will be met. Be realistic and get to grips with how business is done and stop being a spoiled brat

Think of it this way... if nobody buys gas for 1 day, gas bought will be double the next day, making up for any loss whatsoever. This is why the oil companies give zero ***** about strikes like these even if they were to happen.

Even If this was a prolonged strike, nothing would happen. You do realize that $1.40-1.50 a liter is still cheap relatively speaking, right?

People love to complain about something when they have been spoon fed for so long and that luxury is changed or taken away from them without even hearing the justifications. Bitch, bitch, complain, and gimme gimme. Ugh... The general public...find an alternative instead, and thereby force them to change thier prices. Such as pushing the government for subsidies in developing a hydrogen filling infrastructure or subsidies to manufacturers in developing new tech (again, hydrogen cars)

Gas prices are expensive?
I haven't left my neighborhood in over a month.
Working from home and living half a block from a strip mall FTW!

Arca_ex is completely right.
I bought a motorcycle to get to work and back. And I ride my bicycle in town. My work truck runs on propane.
Strikes don't work, changing your habits and modifying your gas/oil needs do.

Sigh ... people who consider performing a "Strike" against gas are forgetting that YOU CANNOT STRIKE AGAINST A DAILY NECESSITY IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE TO FALL BACK ON ... good lord.

A strike would HURT US more than it would HURT GAS COMPANIES...

eventually we need gas ...... there is no avoiding it ..... so here is how the process goes

You strike
Gas company loses money due to sales decrease, BUT IS COUNTERACTED BY AN INCREASE IN SUPPLY
Eventually you are forced to cave in because you cannot drive to work
Gas company goes "HAHA MORON" and increases prices to recover from losses, but surprise surprise, THEY HAVE A SURPLUS IN SUPPLY SO YOUR STRIKE ENDED UP HELPING GAS COMPANIES

People need to think more and really take an economic classes before they fall into the "Facebook world gas strike day" mentality.

I commute 50 miles to work. Yesterday I heard the truck drivers, on CB, talking about fuel prices and striking. They had about as little knowledge about the free market system and the economies of the oil business as some do here.

The best way to strike against the oil companies is to buy a tesla, a proper solar panel setup and an inverter and convert your 8 to hydrogen. Then you win.

People don't have a right to "demand" someone else's product, that's theft. I think Clarkson said something good about it in that the company has to

1)find the oil
2)dig down into the earth
3)suck it up
4)transport it to a refinery
5) refine it
6) ship it to some country
7) truck it to gas stations

you pay $4 for a gallon of it. In the US. Which is crazy cheap compared to the UK, for example.

Speak with your wallets. Spend your money on hybrids, alternative fuels, or convert your truck to consume veggie oil or something... heh. Change is inevitable... "when?" is the question.

Also the inflation adjusted price of gasoline these days isn't so much worse than 20-30 years ago.

And half of that is taxes on the product. Notice that you don't see that posted on the pump. That is a change that would actually be worth while.

Only a matter of time once enough people switch to hybrids that you're going to be taxed on them as well; they need some taxing income to use for road maintenance.

Gas prices, stop speculators on the markets and see how fast gas prices drop, but still cheaper than bottled water!

Nobody really knows what would happen, because it hasn't happened on a large enough scale.
Sure maybe I am way off base here, but so what nothing is going to happen if we all believe in the
(that could never happen scenario). We just need to change our mind set to a yes we can instead of just being bent over and taking it up the you know what at the gas pumps.
As I did state in my first post, this is my rant.

Here's the problem with the gas strike.

When you strike, you only end up hurting the local gas station owners. The oil will be bought by someone. If not by one company, than by another. The Keystone pipleline out of Canada is proof of that. If the US doesn't seize on the opportunity to have oil piped down to refineries in the gulf, then the oil will get sent to China.

By the time you "strike", gas station owners have already purchased the fuel and have it locally on site. You strike which means their sales fall. This won't prompt them to lower prices because they still have to budget in future fuel costs.

The only people who get hurt are local business owners. Even if the US stopped buying oil for a single day, another country would buy up the excess amount.

Those who harp on speculators also need to educate themselves on the market. Speculators may influence the price somewhat, but the speculation market is what keeps prices from sea-sawing all over the place. Speculators don't keep prices down, but they do keep things a bit more steady.

If you're looking for someone to blame, you can look no further than our own monetary policy. Inflation, not speculation, is what drives the cost of oil up. The dollar is worth a lot less today than it was 4 years ago. Since oil is traded in dollars, the price is influenced by inflation. The cost of gas is driven up by the multitudes of formulations that refineries must produce to conform to EPA regulations as well as the failed usage of ethanol.

Taxes, inflation, and expensive EPA policies are fueling gas prices. No strike will change that.
