gas mileage

hey guys im just curious im looking to buy one within the next 6 months i know gas isnt really great on this car but how much is it to fill the tank and on avg how much do you get to a tank without beating on the car. and how much with pushing it.

also premium gas is mandatory but what would happen if you put in say 89 or 87.
i would never do that im just curious if anybody knows by experience a loss in power or its bad for the engine.

any information about gas to this car will help.

thanks

You should really consider using the search function.

Buuutttt...

Gas mileage sucks big donkey ***** in the RX-8. EPA estimate is 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway and I get pretty much exactly that. This translates into 350 km/tank in the city and 475 on the highway. I usually can put in 50 L if I fill up after the light comes on.

I always use 91 octane...this car has enough issues without pushing it. And meticulous maintenance is a must for both engine longevity and fuel economy.

If you can't afford premium you can't afford the car.

It's like 3 bucks a tank difference. If that is a big concern than get something else.

And yeah please search, I swear we just had another one of these threads like 3 days ago.

If you don't like the question, just don't answer. It's that simple.

$ to fill tank = [# of litres] X [$ per litre]

Real Answers:

-Realistically, the best gas mileage you will get (hwy, ~100 km/h) is 10L/100 km.
-In mixed driving, I get 12.5 to 15 L/100 km, depending how spririted I drive.
-For 2004 and 2005 models, Mazda indicated that 87 octane was ok, but 91 was RECOMMENDED. In 2006, they started saying that premium was required. The engine didn't change going into 2006 in any way that would change the octane requirements of the car, it is just the wording in the owner's manual that changed. Most would agree that it is best to use 91, but a tank of 87 should not do any damage to the engine.
