Gas

Now that we've got more KM on our cars.... What are you getting on a full tank of gas.

I'm pushing around 300km (mix of city and hwy driving) on a full tank...... and i drive hard.

What are you getting ?

Cool Lots.......

I'm doing a little better - 390/400km till the fuel light comes on.

Works out to around 23 mpg (imperial).

Tried a tankful keeping the revs between 4k & 6k, after 'Zoomer found the mixture was leanest there...... not too succesful, 20mpg. But it WAS a fun tankful!

Cool

Either you guys driver very hard, or the car has a small tank?!

Try driving the car normally. Meaning keep your shift points at less than 3500rpm. You know, what they recommend in the manual... lol
I'm sure you'll get better milage...

And using 94 is nessasary for FD's. I know it says in the manual for the RX-8 to use premium fuel, but you can try 92 instead of the Ultra.....

Later,

Read the other gas thread that just popped up 87 or 89 should be fine, I've been running 89 since the second week I had the car, I've also used 87 on a few occasions with no issues.

I suspect Pete is driving the car hard, I have been for the last tank and have about 300Km on the car for the tank. "Regular" driving usually yields me 450-500

always getting at least 400 km for about 50 l. I tried running it hard last week for a full tank and got 13.5 l per 100k. Running it hard is fun but ALL the time at 6k rpm isn't a smooth ride imo. between 4 and 5k gives plenty of pep and decent gaz mileage.

you said it at the end... "stop and go traffic" I almost never have to stop and go in traffic, i'm in Laval and work there so no MTL traffic for me.

Well, this is interesting; I'm on my first tank of gas.

I drove 237 km today on half a tank -- highway. I was using 5th for about 30 mins (at about 120km/hr) because I generally like to have above average revs for maneuvering (yes, people on the highway are idiots). I swore I could see the gas needle moving down. I switched to 6th after that and it didn't seem so bad. Maybe my imagination.

Now, I have an FB with a de Lorto carb on it... and I rev the crap out of that thing a lot. But my general route is not stop-and-go traffic. I will see this week how my 8 handles the same route.

So far I'm getting the impression that if I keep a crusing RPM of 4k or higher, I'm going to suffer the same gas penalty as my FB. In the end this isn't really surprising. I'm just going to continue driving my rotary vehicles at comfortable cruise speeds and downshift when I want the revs to do what I need to. The great thing is that I can do that comfortably without worrying about a red-line limit

edit: just thought I'd add that an FB is a 1st gen RX-7 in case people didn't know.

Well.... I filled it up and drove like any nonno (grandfather) would drive, and I'm just under a half a tank with 275KM. . I guess I was driving the car a bit too hard before.

Right now I'm between 3000RPM to 4000RPM while driving. I'll let everyone know what the final result is

Cheers

that's amazing. I just got 170km with half a tank. And I am still driving like a senior!

Pete, you're not in stop and go traffic right?
