ON Front License Plate..Necessary or not?

Hey, just bought a '06 shinka the other day, and it came with a license plate on the front as well, which doesn't look too great and I want to take it off.

Just want to know is there any regulations/laws stating that you DO or DON'T have to have a license plate on the front?

I know having one on the back is mandatory but duz that apply for the front too?

btw, this is for the Toronto area.

THanks

The front plate is mandatory in Ontario. That being said i took mine off the front of my 06 shinka over a year ago and havent had any problems with the cops. (now that i've said this i'm screwed!)

yes, 100% manditory in ontario. i removed mine as well. its in my front window now. and ZmFnZm, dont worry, i say it all the time and nothing yet. lol. I have noticed a few times ill be following a cop for a while and somehow they will end up behind me. once in downtown toronto a cruiser that i was behind for like 5 mins randomly pulled over and i passed him. then all of a sudden he was back out on the road again behind me. followed me for a while then turned off. thats happened more than once. i figure they see the plate in my window and see it as an excuse to pull me over, but they run my plates and see my record is imaculate and dont bother.

I got away with it for almost a year then got a ticket from a cop doing speed radar. Then again randomly a month later. Now I just leave it on. Putting it in the windshield isn't any less illegal.

Can we cross the border without one?

Some states don't require it so its legal in the USA.

Now as a tourist could they enter your country?

Did you install in a conventional format or did you get creative with it?

I didn't want to drill into my MS bumper so I cut off the bottom and zip tied it to the mesh.

I'm not a very creative person. With my stock bumper it's just on the bracket. With the MS bumper it's ziptied to the grill.

Razz, if you aren't from the province you aren't expected to have a front plate.

Thief, what did you cut?

i hate putting it in my mirror because it can become a decapatation device very quickly in a crash.

plus it can scratch your dash board up, or get you in an accident as you try to adjust it or put it in.

I went a year without one, then last year in january, i got pulled over 3 times.

Even when I told the po i had the bracket in my trunk he wrote it up, and the third time i showed him the other two tickets and he wrote one up. Dbags.

The first year was fun, I was able to use the 400 quote from Markham Mazda as a pity card.

Just got tired of it all so now I run plated, but moved the bracket down a bit, so i dont have the buck tooth look on my 8.

The "Yours to Discover" part of the plate.

With a black surround mine kinda looks "euro". The black blends into the grill from a distance.

Is it legal? *shrug* it doesn't cover the license number...

I had my bumper zip-tied also but had the dealership secure it to my MS grill. I got ticketed on my second run-in for the plate. Good thing I temporarily used the zip ties because the same cop was going onto the highway as I was exiting saw the plate and gave me the thumbs up!

I hate the fact that everyone remembers my car... Good thing he didn't say anything about the tint!

well.. if you don't mind the look of the plate on the lower drivers side of the car there's a pretty good DIY on how to relocate the plate evo style. I'll be ordering the parts from Mits this week to do that...

I dont like this law! Whats the point of having the front plate? With that being said the law is what it is and I would rather have my plate on then be talking to police

Yes it is legal in your front window. The law is, your front license plate has to be visible at the front of your car, it doesn't state it has to be MOUNTED on your front bumper, therefore having it in your window (for example) it is legal. That's my setup.

Yes!! It is a province, or states own laws you have to/need to follow. Visitors/tourist say Quebec coming to Ontario will get away with it since their province doesn't require it and cops just let it go. I drove my car from NJ to home when I got it with NO plates on the car anywhere hehe.

If you like that look...I personally hate it, think it looks like a hack job.

As for what Thief did, that is legal, they only need to see the numbers.

Yea but then you have to live in Quebec

I've been pulled over for doing that. The plate has to be "unobstructed" and I guess the ***** thought the windshield was an obstruction as it's not as visible from the front. I got a "warning/fix it" for it.

Since then I just took the plate off. I live in Ottawa so it's on the Quebec border... they just think I'm a Quebecer now

I once went to the US with a QC plated car and got pulled over for not having a front plate. The guy was so confused when I told him we had no front plates he just let me go
