Communist Ontario cracks down on Street Racers

Check out this knee jerk reaction: Where do they get off? What right do they have!

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2...276704-cp.html

This is absolute bullshit!
I'm terribly sorry that somebody died the other day on the 400 because of some ******** ripping up the highway.
And show me the proof that these were modified cars! The fact is that you can race in any car, be it a stock Honda Civic to a Dodge Viper!

Cars don't kill people. People kill people.

These bastards can't come take my car just because I have some after market equipment.

Smoking kills more people and that's not illegal.
I can by drug equipment at any head shop that can only be used for one thing and it's not illegal.

Life is a dangerous place to live, suck it up.

What's next? Ontario makes water illegal because people drown.

I'm so pissed about this I think because I feel my basic rights are being invaded!

<end rant>

Yes it came to pass on June 1st 2007 I believe.

Now they are talking about being able to come to your house and seize your car if you have modifications or suspect your car for street racing

Quote:
"If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car - obviously for the purpose of street racing - then we can seize those vehicles," Bryant said.

"We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car, we will crush the parts."

Just b/c I have parts doesn't mean I street race.

But look at this way...this could lead to less ricer vehicles on the road...
What mods can you have that can clearly be seen by cops that can be deemed 'for the purpose of street racing'

Exactly, the devil is in the details.
I don't believe such a law will ever get passed.
But just the thought makes me furious! (Fast and Furious that is....)

So, if i get just a body kit, does that mean I am going to race?
what if just an air filter for better performance?

this is bs!

Yup you're doomed.
And forget about getting nice rims and summer tires.

You're surely a street racer if you buy performance summer tires

This quote has been making it's way around the forums.
There's no indication the cars that were "racing" up the 400 were modified. They were simply stupid teenagers in Mom/Dad's car trying to be "cool" to their friends.
It's unfortunate the truck driver died. My thoughts are with his family.
But all of a sudden the media yells "street racing" and now stupid laws or total BS statements are being made.

I'm all for getting these modified econobox's off the road. Those cars were never meant to go fast. They were meant to pickup groceries.

But to say all cars that have been modified will be seized, that's just stupid and ignorant.

You're telling me people who buy a Porsche GT3 RS are going to give up their cars?
Or how about people who buy Corvette Z06's???

It's a stupid generalization and it won't have a leg to stand on.

I understand if the owner of a modified econo-box is a teenager and looks "suspicious" pull him over. Chances are good he's been street racing. Or knows of buddies who are doing it.
But to put people who buy real sports cars and have "modified" them to their personality in the same league as those teenagers with Mom/Dad's car is ludicrous!

I can see all the Lawyers benefiting from this type of law!

I'm with you wcs, it's freak'n crazy. Nothing but politicians trying to get a name for themselves.

And because too many of us are your typical passive "let me bend over again" Canadians, we'll accept this like a new health tax or some unsubstantiated gas price increase - with nothing more than a shrug.

USSR became the UCSR?

(Union of Canadian Socialist Republics)

Another case of Liberal Fascism - the philosophy that Government must protect everyone from every possible danger. Goodbye 'personal responsibility' - hello State-Mandated Morality.

Don't worry, since the provincial election is coming up, this will be quickly forgotten as the sleaze bag politicians devote all their time to stabbing one another in the back. Michael Bryant, if he (or the Liberal government) win another term, will be shuffled to another portfolio.

holy crap! BLAME CANADA!!! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Here in SoCal, they just crushed 6 cars because they had strolen parts in them and are perceived to be street racers. And I thought THAT was stiff punishment...

Don't worry ... they've been saying this for years ... and it was the insurance companies leading the charge last time. I'd really like to see just what law allows them to take the action below! If that were the case then I'd be calling my local popo's and let them know that I have a whole list of people I can provide that have modifications on their cars ... a list of all my enemies that is :-) JK And I'd also like to see in writing just what they deem "street racing" is as I do not believe there is a formal definition in the law books and as such would be extremely difficult to prosecute anyone for.

"The government has the power to seize and destroy cars that have been adapted for street racing, and can do so before a race takes place or any charges are laid, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Wednesday."

Cheers,

thats just insane. thats like saying thay if you own a gun, they can come and arrest you for murder, even if the gun has never been fired, just because it has the potential to kill.

Last night I sent a protest email to our idiot premier, the MTO minister and Ontario's Attorney General. May not do much but sure makes me feel better. I'd encourage more auto and bike enthusiasts to do something. This is nothing to do with street racing, it has everything to do with basic rights.

I also copied some Canadian auto journalists, hoping they can send some heat back at the government. It'll be election time soon here after all.

I'm glad he laid it all out so clearly for everyone, this way history will remember him for the big f-cking idiot that he is.

There is a reason why all liberal states have a constitution guaranteeing it's citizens basic rights, access to due process and protection from property seizure. This f-cktard just demonstrated why it is necessary.

I think they are just blowing smoke and trying to scare some people. THere is no way this can be law. What are they going to charge you with? Possession of illegal modifications? For Air Filters, exhaust; all you have to say is that you are just making your car more fuel efficient. I hate how politicians are jumping on the illegal street racing bandwagon when we have so many more serious problems that need to be nipped in the bud.
